Should harlows ears already be up? Harlow is almost four months old and her ears are still not standing. I had the groomer trim the hair on them and what not so they wouldn't be so heavy. Is there anything else I need to do to get them to stand? |
I had to tape my Beya's up to help her ears and I kept them taped for 4 days after that they stayed up. |
Hi ,I have the same problem with my Savoy.I read, they can take up to 18 months for some. However ,I did read to shave the top quarter and wrap with gauze to hold them up.My Savoy is fiesty and would struggle to take if off. Anyone that can shead light on this problem? Savoys just one year. |

I think there is hope for up to 8 months old if they do show promise of standing around 4-5. Do her ears flop up when she's looking at you, one up one down? She's going through her teething stage so make sure that she is getting all the nutrients that she needs, I think it's calcium that goes down during the teething process, but I'm not entirely sure on that you'd have to check other posts on this. Rizzo had one ear up and one down at 14 weeks and by 16 weeks both were standing, for a couple months they would change up, until I shaved them down and now they stand like champs, and his ear hair is long and pretty, you can see it in my avatar :D Good luck, maybe you should shave the hair a little closer to the skin, be very careful not to clip the ear though. |
I have a pic with my beya having one of her ears tapped up this really helps cause if you do it right they cant scratch it off. It says to check it after 4days if there not up redo the tape and leave on for another 4days. It helps to strengthen the nerves in that period rather than them doing it on its own. But you have to shave the hair down so the tape will stick and try not to remove it to often to check cause it will irritate the skin. |

Poppy is 6.5 months and her ears still flop. |
I'd say it's a sign that they are trying to be perky, the link that yorkieusa provided actually has a ton of info in it. I didn't have to try to get Rizzo's ears up, other than keeping them trimmed, but I'd say the odds may be in your favor :D |
You think I should try taping or just see if they stand on their own? |
I tried taping and had no luck, they would fall 2 days after I took the tape off. A breeder told me of this and it does work. When a yorkie pup is growing and especially when teething, their calcium ingestion goes towards jaw, teeth, and bone development. This leaves a deficit for cartilage in the ears and the ear leather grows faster than the cartilage. A teaspoon of cottage cheese every evening will amaze you after 2 weeks. This suppliment, or something similar is what they need. Harlie's ears went rip and are big and beautiful now and stand straight up. She loves the cottage cheese and is the only "people" food that she gets. Don |
I think I'll try the cottage cheese, thanks :) I hope it works. Harlows ears are rather big so that may be why it's taking longer. |
