Are we crazy?? I know many YT members have more than 2 furbutts. So I thought it'd be interesting to hear about comments that we have all received because of the amount of "dogs" we chose to have. I always joke that I will become the crazy dog lady :p If you'd like, you can also add how have your furbutts change your life? Let me start, I have two babies and I'm a college student and everyone thinks I'm crazy for having them because college is very demanding. The problem is, I want more! If I can, I would have a house full! :D My bf is calling me crazy. My family thinks I'm irrational. My friends joke that I will have a zoo soon. Also, I just want to add, my yorkies has really changed my life!! I am currently a Psychology major, but am now planning to become a veterinarian because I realize how much I LOVE animals and how much I want to help them. I will definitely foster animals in the future when I am more stable. Wish me luck! :) |
I've been called crazy by a lot of family members and neighbors. I've stopped listening to them and keep adding to my zoo :) |
I have been called Crazy and dogs do not even enter the equation! |
Okay let me just start by saying that I think most people who feel the need to comment on MY life are CRAZY. They do not live with me and they do not have to be around "My Craziness" as they put it. With that said I will give you the run down of the occupants of our loving home. Skin Type: DH, me, 17yo son, 7 yo daughter and 4yo daughter. Canine Type: 2 Yorkies (Mine) 1 Boston Terrier - (Son's Dog) 1 Papillon - Female (DH Dog) Feline Type: 3 domestic cats - all rescues Scale Type: 10 fish of various types but mostly Cichlids. I have been told that I have a zoo and maybe I do. However I love my home. It is full of love and companionship for everyone. |
I was just at a memorial luncheon for Carol (Nikki's owner) and her brother came up to me and said "So you're the crazy dog lady. Do you really have 4 and why?" I wanted to slap him. I took Nikki in because her family would have put him in a shelter like they did with her other 2 dogs when she went into the hospital for a few days.Nikki and I were the only ones visiting her at the nursing home. So if they call that crazy, I'll take it. I'd rather be called that than heartless which is what they were. |
I'm in college too. I also have two babies. Only one yorkie and a mini schnauzer. My mom, brother, and many others think I'm crazy. I don't even think two dogs are a lot! College is demanding but I am home a lot studying so they get plenty of attention. Couldn't imagine life without them!! Who cares what anyone thinks, if you take care of them and love them that's all that matters. Nobody goes around saying how many skin babies you can have so why should it matter with furbabies? |
My house my rule !!! I have only 2 , but am looking forward to having one or two more soon. I would love to rehome or foster . Call me what u want my house my rule. !!!!! The more the merrier. bark@ulater !!!! manin, miley:aimeeyorkmax:aimeeyork :ghug: |
I've been called crazy for having just one...especially by my dad and some other family members. :( |
Sometimes I feel crazy for only having one! I am looking foward to evental having 3, is it crazy that I already named the ones I'm yet to get? I also have been buying clothes and barrets for my future girl yorkie...lol, that lil baby is going to be sooo spoiled I can't wait to be the crazy yorkie lady. |

Oh PLEEEAAAZZZZ!!!! We have 6 dogs in the house. 5 yorkies and an american eskimo. My dogs make us happy WAY more often then they annoy me, (we have our moments). Like the previous post said, anyone who has anything to say, they don't have to live here. Me, my husband, and my daughter love our babies and to hell with what anyone else has to say. |
I'm a college student toooooo!!!! I have two yorkies and love them to death! My mom says furbutts are way better than having skinbutts at this point in my life. I love my dogs to death and would have to say they are some of the most spoiled, loved and taken care of dogs in the world. I couldn't imagine life without kissing each of their little heads before bed every night. |
I have 3, a yorkie, chi and pom. Everyone thinks I am crazy with all my health problems. I just point to my parents who have either 6 or 7 dogs. Can't remember them all. Also 2 cats and 4 minature goats. |
Wouldnt trade them for anything! Currently I have Eight:) Six are mine, and I am puppy sitting two for a friend. I have had them since July, so they feel like they belong here now. I have been called lots of things from crazy to stupid. I dont pay much attention to what people say, because from what I have experienced with humans I'd much rather spend my time in the company of dogs! ;) I make it a point to let everyone who makes an off comment about my babies know exactly where I stand on the subject too. |
Ok here's the thing!!!! I know that there are people out there that think having more then 1 or 2 dogs crazy, becuase of how much work it is, cost etc... BUT don't try and make someone else feel bad because that's what chose... This is what happened with my sister-in-law and I... It made me Sooooooo mad.... We have 5 dogs.... Oldest to youngest.. Shadow 8yrs Golden Kylie 7yrs Chocolate lab Wishbone 4yrs Jack Russel Twilight 2.5 yrs Chihuahua Isabella (Izzy) 1 yr. yorkie They are all potty trained...yes even Izzy..lol... The big dogs (Shadow and Kylie) are trained to stay in the kitchen, laundry room and basement. They LOVE being outside but I make them sleep inside :) Wishbone, twilight and izzy are free to go where ever in the house they like... (they are easier to keep clean :) I'm a stay at home mom, my house always smells good. People can't believe that We have 5 dogs. They are fed great food and always have fresh water... We have a HUGE yard and they are all trained to stay in the yard..except Izzy...But will not leave the little ones out by themselves..And they are all fixed... except Izzy.. which will be soon (before her next heat for sure). They are all update on shots... and are very healthy!! When we go away my mom comes and stays at the house... I have all my bases covered... Kylie is my rescue dog... She was only 12-16 weeks old when I found her with a rope around her neck sooo tight that I could not even get my finger through.. She has changed my life the most when it come to dogs... They are part of our family.. BUT of Izzy will always hold a special place in my heart.. and the other dogs need to thank her.. It's becuase of Isabella that they eat such great food (Orijen).. Before her they were eating Iams :( I never knew about the different grades of dog food etc... They all have beautiful coats and in great shape!! My hubby, kids and my self love them to the Max.. and they know it :) |
At this moment I have 5 Yorkies (2 "regulars" and now the litter of 3). We are keeping one of the pups and are offering two of the pups for sale. So when the two are sold we'll be a family of 3 Yorkies (though of the two for sale I've grown quite attached to one of them and suggested to hubby we keep that one (too)...he just gave me that look that suggested to me I put off the idea of a 4th Yorkie for awhile!!! - I think he means "quite awhile" !) We have two Siamese cats, 14 large Koi & goldfish (outside pond). So we're an animal family. Kendra |

I'm done at three though, one of my dogs is a rescue dog with special emotional and social needs, my yorkie has medical issues and my mini schnauzer is well a schnauzer and anyone who has one knows how they are-stubborn, everything with a schnauzi is MINE! and oh!! the schnauzi stare glare I do have to say I'm at my limit with three (especially with the special needs here) but I wonder about people who have in excess of 5 dogs what their intention is-expressiveness-more power to you if you can create a loving healthy home for so many furbabies HOWEVER, how can one provide enough individual one on one attention when you have several many dogs? Every dog needs a buddy I think it's kind of sad for dogs who are the only dog is a family, but is it not sad for dogs being one of a large pack too? I'd like to hear from people who have many dogs-how do you handle training, attention etc with so many, and honestly are they all having their needs fully met? I"m not bashing genuinely curious...I'd love to have 15-20 dogs but in reality I'm at my realistic limit at three...although if my significant other would go for it maybe four :o) |

Yes!! The more, the merrier!! Quote:
My bf and I were just discussing this last night!! He was saying that if we have more than two, it's hard to give them all their needs. However, I'm still getting a puppy when I graduate...I can't wait...since it's 2 years from now. I'd also like to hear other YT members' experience with over 3 dogs. Bravo to you all!! Too bad I'm super allergic to cats, otherwise, uh-oh!! Unfortunately, I live with my bf so I can't get more dogs than he approves. :( I think when I get the 3rd one, it will probably be the max. I might slowly push it to 4? ;) Then, people won't think I'm crazy, they will think I'm a lunatic!! :D |
We have 4 dogs 15 cats 12 birds and 2 guinea pigs. I've been called crazy by alot of people but who cares. I love all my pets and I wouldn't trade any of them for all the tea in China. So if that makes me crazy I'm happily crazy. |

I've been called crazy a lot. I always say if I won a lot of money from the lottery I would build a huge dog refuge for dogs needing homes. I don't think I'm crazy I just like animals better then humans. |
My family are not dog people at all. I have only two and they think I'm crazy. "You need another dog like you need a hole in the head". Heard that one? |

I throughly enjoyed reading this post. It is refreshing to know that I am not the only person that people call crazy. I currently only have 1, my 6yr old yellow lab. Patiently waiting til I am able to bring my new Yorkie baby home the end of December. I know its going to be a lot of work. I am 32, single, own my home and work very hard for everything that I have. Family and friends all think that I am crazy but I know that I provide a safe, loving, nurturing, healthy home. I am gone sometimes for 8-12 hours at a time. Ideal for a Yorkie puppy or any puppy for that? No, but I do have friends that support me are willing to come to my house when I have to be gone. I am now serving as our local humane society President along with another organization that I volunteer for. I know what it takes to provide for my pets and help educate in our community. So I guess with that said, I say CHEERS to all of us crazy people. My pets are my world and I wouldn't change that for anything. |
My DH was one of 13 skinkids. I'm pretty sure his parents loved them all equally. People who have quintuplets probably don't have a huge difference in how they love each individual child, nor do parents who have 2, 3 or 4 kids. Same with furkids. I have six dogs, large mix rescue, 1 maltipoo rehome, 4 yorkies 2 rescues, 2 breeder purebreds and 2 cats rescues. I've fallen asleep in the recliner with the 80lb dog curled up beside me and the other five scattered all over me between my feet and neck in various places. Everybody gets attention and love. I love each the same but differently for the different quality that each brings to the table. Just as you do your skin children. Love just happens and each one brings its own place to your heart. |
Not at all! I'm planning for a little brother & sister for Ariel in the future, but not just yet. |

I also think it's great that you're considering fostering in the future. We really want to get involved in that, but need to get a house first (we currently live in a condo). There are so many dogs out there who really need help. I am especially interested in maybe adopting older dogs who have trouble finding homes. |
