Are Yorkies not supposed to be white?? Hi! I am completely new to Yorkies and just got mine with only having a little time to research about them. The previous owner wasn't a breeder and sold our puppy to us pretty cheap because the dad didn't have papers, but she said they are purebred. So anyway I was reading that it is a bad thing if your Yorkie has white hair. Our Yorkie's mama was mostly white and reddish tan. So can someone please help me understand if this is a bad thing and why? |

I have not seen a White Yorkie before.. Although I have seen really BLONDE Yorkies. How old is she/he? |
You can find white on yorkies. Is not really bad is just is not part of the standard. How old is your little one? Do u have any pics? By the way Welcome to YT. |
My Isabella is 9 weeks old and she's so sweet. I don't care if she's going to turn white, but I was surprised when they told me she would because her mom was. I found this website and read on here that you should watch out for your Yorkie being tri-colored for some reason and I was just wondering what was up with that. But it doesn't really matter because I'm already in love with her! |
I'm pretty sure you don't mean white as in a Maltese. However, they can get such a light mixture of silver on their backs that make them have a very VERY light apprearance, but is still isn't white like the background I am typing on. My mom's Yorkie Lacey has a coat like that. To see white on their chest and tips of paws as pups is normal and it will go away. I hope you stay with this site because it will be more helpful to you than trying to hurry and buy a bunch of books and read them all to learn more about puppies and Yorkies. I'm not saying not to read books, I'm just saying the "hands on" experience here is priceless. I look forward to more posts from you and seeing pictures of your new puppy! |
I'd have to see a picture to see how much white is on the pup. |

Even though the gal told you their purebreeds, I would say not. No papers no purebred. I also can be wrong on this. As for the white & Reddish tan. That's where you get the variety of Dogs. Show, Pet & Breeding. There are times white comes out, that is because there is Maltese in the genes. Normally you see a spot here and there, like on the feet or chest. All over though, I'm just guessing strong Maltese genes. Then again with no papers it could be anything. With papers, most of the time you can check the lineage. I'm sure your dog is a sweetie no matter what it is. |
It could be a particolor and If so those are kinda rare. Would loe to see pictures |
Why don't you tell us where the white is on your pup and try to post a picture. I disagree that if you don't have papers the pup is not a purebred. |
Hi my Sparky is white on top of his head and he is purebred but his moma was really light around her face!! |

As I said, it's a guess. You can't figure the lineage without papers. |
What peoples referred as white is mostly a platinum colors . Yorkshire Terriers are supposed to be dark steel blue and gold but it is very rare to find one that look like the standard call for . |
