How does your dog deal with change? How does your dog deal with change? Jackson is iffy about certain things. He has things a certain way and doesn't really want them to be changed. For example, over at my dad's house when we sleep there, they were painting and doing work in the upstairs so for a few months when visiting we would sleep on the roll out couch downstairs (which is where master bedroom is and my brothers room) so Jackson got accustomed to sleeping down there... when I tried to bring him back in my bedroom upstairs for the night, he drove me CRAZY! We got absolutely got NO sleep... he was up ALL night (after a full day of exercise, etc) and I've just given up and we sleep on the couch every time we visit.:rolleyes: I live with my mom, stepdad and little sister but we have our own 'section' of the house with bedroom, bathroom and living space so Jackson considers this our 'home'... the other night, I went upstairs to watch a movie in my moms bed with her and my sis. Jackson was alright for about an hour but then he was READY to go downstairs. He sat at the top of the stairs and let out a little whine every 5 minutes just because he wanted to go lay downstairs. He is very much set in his ways and his schedule and I wouldn't say he particularly likes change. How do your Yorkies react to change? |
Mine are very set in their ways too. I spend most of my time in my bedroom, but if I sit in the living room they are very restless. |
I suppose it is their schedule that they don't like changed more than anything else. You know, they love new experiences, but when they get tired then they are ready to go home. Toward the end of our work day, Kacee is ready to go before I can go and starts looking at me hopefully because she knows we get to do fun things like go for walks and play outside when we do go home. |
Did you see this, Brittany? I posted it in the Off Topic section yesterday. It's hysterical! Hyperbole and a Half: Dogs Don't Understand Basic Concepts Like Moving |
Mine are so easy going, lol, they go with the flow for sure. Tonight I tore their bedroom apart, moved EVERYTHING around. food and water dishes , all the beds, added new beds, moved the toy box, moved the pee pad...EVERYTHING....they were not phased at all haha. |

My two are not phased by change at all... We can drive 6 hours to Canada in the middle of the night and they are happy as long as they go to bed with us. |

Rhia's been better about change but she has done two funny things when change has occurred before. :) 1. I went to Arizona for school last year and Rhia stayed with my parents while I was gone. She started a habit of picking up one of her toys on the way outside during her nightly walks with my mom and would carry it around the whole neighborhood. She'd set it down while doing her business, then pick it back up and carry along. She totally stopped this when I came home. I NEVER got to see her do this with my own eyes. LOL. 2. We moved into my apartment, just Rhia and I, back in July. She began to treat her toys, the small stuffed ones, as if they were her babies. She'd carry them from room to room, whichever I was in, and would lay down with them. She also hid them in the corner behind my bed at night then would bring them all out in the morning. I'm not sure if she thought someone was going to come steal them from her while she wasn't watching, but she did this for a couple of weeks then stopped. :) She's silly. |
Mine are very adaptable... They have had to be.... They have been on vacations, through moves, they go tons of places, and we have different schedules all the time.... They like to be with me but do just fine if my parents watch them or my other sitter watches them. Mostly as long as they know they are with me or someone they know well, they are happy and content. :) |
Chachi my bigger yorkie rolls with change but Jewels, my smaller nervous yorkie, shakes and acts nervous with change |
Luckily, Tess is very adaptable! |
Callie does not do change well at all. If we change anything of hers or if we change anything in the house (like a new couch or something) she either pouts and just lays around or she throws her bones and toys around (she does this when she plays but with more force when shes mad) and will walk around crying. When we go to like West Virginia to visit family or anywhere that we are not sleeping at home we dont normally get a lot of sleep but I have learned from the last trip if I tuck her into the bed with me and kinda lightly rub her head she will get tired and sleep but we have to start all over if I have to get up and go potty. |
Zhoie doesn't do change well, she is definitly a creature of habit. She gets nervous in new situations and clings to me like there's no tomorrow. |
