Looking for Advice for my little guy... Hello again all! My little guy, Satchmo, has been going on car trips with me - short ones (5 -10 min in car) but recently I took him on a longer trip (around 30 minutes driving) the poor tyke got car sick! I feel so bad for him! I am wondering if there is anything I can give him to keep him from getting sick. We usually travel (by car) to FL (we live in GA by Atlanta) once a winter and I am concerned about him getting sick. I really don't want to have to board him or leave him home with a dog sitter. Any ideas for long or short car rides would be great. I really want to take my little love with me everywhere but now I am worried about him getting sick if I take him any further than the corner store. Can you help us out? |

Some get car sick and some don't. My lil Muffin, as a puppy, got car sick. She outgrew it though and loved, loved, loved to travel. Your puppy will be fine. I would just make sure not to feed him within a couple of hours of starting the trip. I'm sure he'll need to eat during the trip; I just wouldn't start it out that way. |
Thanks for the article! :) I was wondering if anyone had actually had a dog that got car sick and if there is anything besides medicating him that anyone has tried? (and had it work) I would like to figure out how to stop him from feeling bad now, before he gets to the point he freaks out when we head for the car. Right now he WANTS to go on trips but I am worried if he continues to feel bad, he will associate the car with feeling bad and make the condition worse (stress as well). |
my guy doesnt get car sick but he gets really nervous. i tried the halters that the seat belt goes through, but he hates it. he wants to ride in my lap which isnt safe. |
Toby gets car sick on winding roads and hills. I give him 1/2 dramamine about two hours before we leave and he does great! Vet said 1/2 dramamine for a 10 lb. dog is fine. I used to give him 1/4 pill and it didn't do much good. As soon as I increased it to 1/2 pill he no longer gets car sick. |
car sick pups Belle use to get sick when she was just a few months old. My husband always teased me as the first two times she got sick was as we pulled into the parking lot at Petco. I would take her on short rides, then increasing the length up to half an hour. I also bought a booster seat for her so she could see out the windows. That seemed to help even more as she could see where she was going. Just be sure and carry a roll of paper towels with you. |
Tess used to get car sick but now she is fine as long as her tummy is empty. |
