well I just got pissed off. this lady is selling yorkie pups at less than a month old. they were born Oct 29 and will be ready thanksgiving.

This is ridiculous!

I can not beleive someone would sell a puppy at 4 or 5 weeks old and this web site prohibits selling puppys before 8 weeks so flag it, I did and they will remove it.

That's my ad and the puppies were born Sept 29 not Oct 29 I would never sell my puppies that young, when I get tonight I will double check my ad thanks for the heads up.

I looked again and it does say October 29, please check it. I couldn't believe it when i saw the ad. I am glad it is a mistake. Isn't that still just 8 weeks? shouldn't you keep them til they are 12 weeks at least.

If you want a healthy puppy with a really good breeder - then don't buy of the internet!

I am appalled!!!!!!!! This is just another easy way to keep byb and puppy mill dogs alive. This is sick IMO!

Thinking back on the 2 litters we had, I cannot imagine in my wildest nightmare, letting any of them go to people via an internet classified without ever meeting them in person, screening them an feeling comfortable that they could provide loving care! How anyone sells by internet ads, websites, or the like to people they have no clue about, I will never understand.

Many here got their pups at the airport, never even meeting the breeder or seeing where the pups were born and raised. This just cannot be a good way to start what is supposed to be a 15+ year relationship with your puppy. Take the time to find a local breeder that you can go meet, see how they treat their dogs, see where the pups live (not just where they are shown to customers). Ask hundreds of questions and make sure all the testing was done on the parents, they are good representatives of the breed, there is a GOOD health guarantee (that provides more than just giving up your pup) and the breeder has a good reputation. Try to get as much info as you can BEFORE you see that pup. All pups look cute. It is hard to make a constructive decision when you re getting your hand licked by a precious ball of fur!

I so agree with you. What further perplexes me how any breeder could actually sell their dogs via an auction site/classifieds/website. Willing to let their pups go to the highest bidder. These pups are living breathing creatures, not inadimate objects.

I would say definitely avoid anyone who advertises on Ebay classifieds... Not someone I would want to purchase a puppy from!

Lots of great posts! I always suggest people find the best breeder who will sell to them, you're not really buying a dog, you are supporting someone's breeding program, and you're saying,"Yes, people like this should be breeding dogs." We have an abundance of "pets" in this country, the only reason to breed is to preserve in and improve the breed. Those whose primary goal for breeding is just to earn money or some narcissistic notion that they can breed without studying the yorkie and its weaknesses are doing the breed more harm than good. One of the ways you can tell a good breeder from a byb is how they sell their dogs.

I bought my dogs from the kijiji ads. No. I dont think advertisement avenues determine a bad breeder. I just paid 350 for my guy and by some standards Im sure they'd say that he was so cheap that there must be a reason why....

I think price and things like that greatly differ from locations. I think some people just push for more dollars simply because they can probably get it for these guys. I've seen them sell for as cheap as 350 to as much as advertised for 1 to 2 thousand. I didnt see my breeders location, and I admit yes, that is probably needed and good advice that you do so. Just didnt work out for me ,I met my person because of a long distance. But thankfully it worked out I have a healthy, well rounded little guy w no problems. I did buy a lhasa apso from the same site and I do like her breeder and still keep up w her but do think she sold her way too young and little. I think the real key is to ask all the right questions and view them at location if possible. But even still breeders can lie.

But i dont think advertisement avenues distinguish a bad breeder. Or because you dont or didnt pay out the wazu for one doesnt mean you have a bad one or something must be wrong w it.

But sometimes things do sound a bit snobby round here. I know we have snobby cutsie little dogs , but really.

Just curious too, what about the breeders thats bred for years? What do even THEY do with the dogs that have bred thier limit. Seems like even breeders thats bred for 20 plus years must have little retired dogs lying round, what about those guys. Maybe thats why you hear so much about adopt from the pounds and rescues.....

The advice given on this site is from people who have been there, done that and learned from their mistakes. Good breeders are EXTREMELY selective about who they sell to. After all, they know that they are responsible for the lives and well beings of these precious pups. Sending a pup off to the highest bidder doesn't rank on the same list as placing a pup in a good home. They most often have waiting lists for their pups.

Good breeders DO have dogs they retire from their breeding program. They take great pains to place them in loving homes after they have spayed/neutered them.

Now, contrast that to the backyard breeder who is trying to make a profit off of selling pups. Prices are generally lower because they don't do any pre-breeding testing. They don't put the time and money in to showing to get approval for their breeding program. Little to no thought is put in to breeding to standard or improving the breed. Dogs are a disposable commodity to them, rather than an investment. Health guarantees are non-existant, or minimal at best. As long as the check clears, the home is good enough for their pups.

Do good breeders occassionally advertise? I'm sure they do. But the odds of finding a great breeder off the internet through Kijji is slim.
