Top Knots...Creating Knots I am new, and very proud, mommy of a baby girl. She turns 5 months on Friday and after 4 weeks of intense (hehe :p) effort, I finally can get her hair in a top knot. Since she still has the puppy hair which is thin I have been using little rubber bands made for kids. They seem to stay in well but after one day they create a knot of her hair that needs to be pulled out b/c it can't even be brushed. Any suggestions? Is it the rubber bands or am I doing it too tight? Also, how long do you keep one in at a time? I have been taking them out every night b/c I don't want it to irritate her. |

Thanks, I will pick up a detangler today. Where can I get those bands? Is there a store where groomers shop for supplies? |

Most exhibitors obtain their bands from here. |
I just went to that website - perfect thanks!!! What size band should I get? It looks like you get a ton so I don't want to order the wrong size. Right now she is 2.5 lbs and will probably grow to 5 lbs, not sure if her size helps. |
I guess I also need to ask...latex bands or wrapping bands? |

Thank you soooo much! |
I'd suggest ordering a pair of band removal scissors when you order the bands. They have a little hook on the end to snag the band so you can pull it away form the hair and snip it. Trying to remove a band without one can create a matted mess. I love the bands from Show Off. They sell band removal scissors also. Band Scissors |

Lainee's is now owned by Wayne, Laniee passed away a couple of years ago and left the business to Wayne. Most of the exhibitors I know ordor their supplies from there. Wayne is very knowledgable about what bands to use for what, dependent on what your dog's texture is. What is even better yet that he donates so much to the yorkie world. Donating Trophies, gifts for raffles as well as donating to the Yorkie Health Foundation. So, your purchase helps these causes. Oh! By the way, keep your bands in the refridgerator....it keeps the from rotting. |

Lainee is a great supplier of bands. But may I also suggest getting some children's/babies scrunchies. They don't pull the hair out. And by the way you are doing exactly right by taking the top knot out daily. Your baby is also probably rubbing her topknot on anything available. A good grooming spray, the trick is to wait after you spray for 1 or even 2 minutes before trying to brush out knot. And as Mary has said start from the ends of the hair. I also use my fingers to spread the hair, and sometimes the end of a rattail comb. Getting band scissors are a must if you use elastic bands. |
