Hello I am new to the site. I think it is going to be very interesting. I have 4 Yorkies: Sassy Raz, age 15-1/2, Roxie, age 3, and Lily and Macy, each 1. They all have a little different personalities, as well as some annoying ways. Lily and Macy are sisters, and they can be a little different as well. Lily sometimes gets car sick and throws up. Any ideas on what to do? They never get enough attention or loving. My first Yorkie, Daisy, lived to be 17 years old. She had congestive heart failure. It was so hard when she passed away 3 years ago. |
Welcome to YT! You will love it here. There are alot of good people and informational forums you can look through to find about anything you need information on. |
Welcome to YT. You have a great lil fur family there. The only thing I can think of to keep her from being car sick is not to feed her within two hours of getting in the car. Usually, they get over it if you go often. I hope you enjoy YT. Be sure to check out all of the sections. There is plenty of reading and good friends to make.:) |
We have a long-time member, Connie, who is from North Dakota, too. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/member.php?u=742 |
Welcome to YT and so glad to have your little family joining us! You will get carried away on here and won't want to leave because there are so many wonderful people and threads to read! Hope to see pictures soon!:animal36 |
Welcome! How do you transport your dogs in the car? My little one got carsick when we took her in the enclosed carrier, but since we got her a raised carseat where she can look out the window she's been just fine. |
Hi Norma and Welcome to YT. It sure does sound like you have a house full of Yorkie's. Glad to have you with us.... :welcome4: |
what a nice little pack you have. :welcome4: to YT, all of you. :D |
Welcome to Yt, Sophie use to get sick in the car and the vet gave her some pills, she took half a pill a half hour before a ride and they worked. When she got older she didnt need them anymore. I am lucky with Scooter and so far Saddie to. |
Lily doesn't throw up every single time in the car. Have tried putting her in a carrier too, but I think she gets more frightened in that. I think it will help to not take her for awhile after eating. These Yorkies are sure precious! |
I have put her in a carrier or just sitting on the seat. I think she gets more frightened in a carrier. I think will help to not feed her for awhile before taking her too. My daughter said the same thing about not being able to see out the window. She can see out though by standing up by the window. Will just have to take her more often. |
Welcome. Mine no longer get sick in the car since they got their car seat. |
Hello and welcome! Lucky you to have 4 babies! |
Toby gets car sick no matter where he's sitting. So we put him on Dramamine (1/2 pill about two hours before we leave.) Works like a charm. And this is the human Dramamine. I was only giving him 1/4 and our vet said to increase it to 1/2 pill and ever since I did he no longer gets carsick. |
Hey, thanks for the info. May need to try it sometime, especially if I would go on a little longer drive. May take a drive of 3 -4 hours later this month. How much does your little one weigh? I have taken dramamine when I ride in my daughter's RV. |
Welcome. Sounds like a fun group of yorkies. I have 4 as well, my oldest is around 15-16 and my youngest is 3. My littlest one sometimes gets carsick so I don't feed her for a couple of hours before we go and she does better. |
Does your older Yorkie have any physical problems? Mine has dementia so doesn't always tell you he has to go potty. Vet says to treat him like a puppy and put him out often. I got some pills I have been giving him for this, and so far don't think it has helped that much. Have given him these pills for about 2 weeks though. So sad to see them get old. Of course he doesn't hear well and has cataracts. Last winter he had a small lump on his left side. It got a big bigger so vet removed it, and it was cancerous, but she said the chances of it spreading was very low. hear well and has cataracts. |
Nikki was found on the streets about 3 years ago and my vets think he is 16 years old. I have never had one this old. He doesn't hear well at all. Today when I came home and the other 3 went nuts barking, Nikki never even woke up. He has trouble seeing and lately has gotten more aggressive with one of my girls. I have had him since February and he never liked Cali from day one, I have no idea why as she is a sweetheart. Luckily he has no teeth so he can't hurt her. I just had him to the vet and he said his heart was strong and he had good muscle tone but I think he has that doggy dementia and it is getting worse. He will run around looking all over for me and will keep running right by me. Also, he will wake up and look like he doesn't know where he is for awhile. It is sad to see them age. So far he uses the potty pads but I know if he had to rely on just going outside he would be having accidents. I know he was having accidents at his previous owners apartment as she was very elderly and only took him out 3 times a day. |
Since you mentioned having a yorkie with dimentia, I thought you might be interested in reading this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...er-yorkie.html |

So cute with bows in their hair, but I usually don't do it, as some groomers don't know how to make the bow stay in. And, sometimes the dogs take them out. If you can do it yourself, that is great!! |
