I'm all for dogs in the bed, IF all the humans sleeping in the bed are okay with it. If your husband has tolerated it for two years, I think he's due a dog-free bed. Sorry! You can set the bed up a number of ways. For instance, you could have a nice, high doggie bed set right next to the regular bed so you can pet him during the night. Once you decide he's off the bed, you have to commit. Accept that you will have a night or two of barking and crying. I bet he accepts the new situation pretty quickly, as long as you are firm about it. If you let him on the bed after he cries for fifteen minutes, or you sneak him on in the middle of the night, he'll just get confused. Decide he will be in his own bed nearby, and stick to it. |
Both of my girls sleep in the bed with me and my hubby. One will snuggle with me and one with him. Your hubby is being unfair. That baby has been used to sleeping in the bed, why change now?? I say, let the baby stay a part of the family in your bed!! |
I'd take my furbaby to the couch and intentionally fall asleep there with him so he doesn't cry and wake up the DH for a few nights... or longer. In fact I'd be on the couch for as long as it takes DH to change his mind! |
I have to agree with quicksilver.. my dogs dont sleep in the bed with me, they all have their kennels. My hubby likes our toy poodle sleeping with us but she is only 4 pounds and he is a sound sleeper and I was petrified he would roll over and kill her so for her saftey and so I could get some sleep she know sleeps peacefully in her kennel.,.:) |
Well, I just wish people would think of these things before the poor lil dogs become accustomed to sleeping in a bed. It's absolutely mean to not allow them to sleep there any longer after two years. Why, after two years, is it a problem? |
thats wat i told the hubby after two yrs now is a problem i dont get it.and my furbaby sleeps next to me.i'm just smh. |

No advice here. That concern has crossed my mind at times though. I'm divorced and not in a relationship but I often wonder about when that time does come, how Brooklyn sleeping on my bed will come into play. Hmmm.... |

my thoughts are for some one starting out with a new dog would be not to do it and let him sleep in his own bed but close to you at night ie a dog bed one the floor by you. I did this at first and he was conent. Then I would sneak him into bed :O)loved and i was by myself as my husband and i were seperated when i got him. but when my husband came back it became an issues. He didn't like the idea because we'd since gotten a bigger taller bed and he couldnt get out to potty on his own so he'd pee in the bed. so we put him back to his bed on the floor on my side of the bed. It took getting use to because it does spoil him and they want back in bed. Now, me and hubby arent getting along good these days again and I ve moved back to the smaller bed and Ive let mine back in bed. I love it but I'm spoiling him again I'm sure and will have to probably get him used to his bed again. Maybe u can try to see if he/she is content in his bed on the floor right beside you. other than that the only thing that comes to mind is that ive seen dog "bunk beds" where there is a crate like bed on bottom, steps that lead up to another bed on top. If yours would be safe on the top bunk and would use the steps then the height might put him close to you and he might feel just as much close to you as if he were in bed. Have no idea what they cost but I would say they are expensive. |
As much as I hate to say it, it sounds like your husband has objected all along and he's been giving in to you until he's had enough. I don't think pets should be in the bed unless ALL of the humans sharing the bed agree. You are going to have a few rough nights, but if you have the dog close to your side of the bed where you can reach it, you should be able to get it to settle down eventually. |
I don't think it is fair to kick the dog out of the bed after 2 years unless he was doing something wrong. I think things like this should be decided from the begining. |
