Lida Rose

Update on this little girl:
Lida is almost totally healed. She still has trouble with one paw busting open on her but has started getting around on 3 legs to avoid it. Her hair is coming back in and she's getting around really well, running can be a problem but she's getting better. She can do everything she use to do except get off the bed, she gets on things better than off them. Lida is now weighing 4 pds 5 ounces and getting chubbier by the day. You can hardly tell her little paws are gone, the fur is growing around them, she looks more like she was born with a birth defect. She won't tolerate anything on the one paw yet though, when she does the booties will help her out some. She's such a sweet little thing, she's bossier than before and getting to be quite vocal because that's how she gets what she needs or wants. She plays well with Cosie, letting Cosie do the running while she waits on the pillow for her to come past and then attacks her. We have pillows and cushions all over the floor for her to 'rest' on and she'll run from one to the other. She is so pretty, sorry I can't post pics, no camera yet, maybe Christmas Santa will bring me one, hubby was going to borrow one but the guy keeps forgetting (I don't think he wants to lend it out). OH well, the important thing is Lida is going to have a normal yorkie life, with a few inconvienences and she is 99% recovered, no more surgeries or anything (grateful for that, scared to put her under again). She won't be able to have puppies but I wasn't going to breed her anyway. Thanks everyone here for your concern and help through all this!

Lida can now get off the bed! We set her up a little box with a cushion at the foot and she finally decided that she can make it off as well as on! That was the last thing she couldn't do, now she does everything she did before. The vet says that once she decides not to use that fourth paw it should heal up, the spot that busts open is starting to get smaller, but it still hurts her some, we give her a baby aspirin (she's really good at taking them, think she knows they make her feel better) and that helps. It is pitiful to see her hold up that little leg, it just shakes, you know it hurts, but the vet is hopeful that soon it won't bother her anymore. Worse case scenario is that if she won't stop using it, she may have to have surgery to even it up, pray that is not the case, putting this little girl under is taking a big chance she won't come out of it. I think she will eventually quit using it because that's when it gets hurt and she's no dummy, my little Lida Rose! I come home and she's so happy to see me, first thing we spend time alone together on the bed loving and playing with each other, I love this little girl more than anything, she is truly my little miracle and I thank God for her everyday. Just had to share this, I feel so lucky to have her with me and get kisses and puppy love from her and see her return to a normal doggie life, I was concerned that I did the wrong thing but now I know it was the only thing I could do and I want to assure everyone that she is a Happy puppy and on her way to being a healthy puppy. Everyone loves her that meets her, she's quite an ambassador for yorkies.

Good news! It's very important to get up on the bed, too! Mine would have been lost! :D I know you love her no end. I also know how illness and nearly losing them can magnify that love and the bond we have with them. ;) She's a very special little angel.

MeganS 11-12-2005 10:24 AM
