Give her a safe place to go to, like a crate, and let her explore on her own. Have you considered closing in the bottom of the fence so she can be off the leash, or perhaps putting an ex pen outside that you can put her in. Good luck to both of you and Bless you for giving her a loving home. |
I have to go along with what everybody says. You have to have patience and you have to show her extreme love and comfort. I never had a rescue dog but we are thinking about getting one some day. My 2 basset hounds were 4 months old when we got them and they had been kept in a small pen together. When they took them out they fell all over each other because they were cramped up so long. We had to carry them to the car because they were deathly afraid of being outdoors and mind you they were both 25 lbs each. Chloe still has soft tissue issues because she was kept in a small crate 24/7 and never allowed any excersie. So although it wasn't really a rescue, we think we rescued her and her sister. It's taken awhile but now she is a different dog. She loves being outdoors and she's just about as loving as any dog can be. |
Best wishes on your new addition Donna...it will all take time and patience. Sad that your little one came from a situation like that. Take your cues from her and don't rush anything. Baby steps.... |
Hi Donna, I am so happy your new baby is home. I've read the other posts, and was wondering how she reacts to Scooter. I was thinking that once they bond, she may follow behind him...yorkie see...yorkie do. Just a thought. |
Your story really moved me. I can only imagine how much patience your little girl will require...but am thankful that you are giving her the life she deserves. I'll watch for updates and am wishing you and your little ones all the best. |
thanks so much for rescuing this pup. I agree with everyone esle, with some time, patience and lots of love she will come around. |
Thank you all for the advice. I took her for two walks today, with Scooter , and she did very well. I still can not get her to come up, or go down the steps but I did teach her to dance for a treat which shows me she is very smart. I am soin love with her already. She slept with me last night and she was so scared. You could tell she had never been in a bed before. She is coming around slowly but surely |
I will not let her in the backyard off the leash , not only because of the gate but because she could get under the deck and by the pool. I will look into this pen for the yard. She really is not sure about Scooter yet but she plays with him but then she has gotten mean with hi twice but I let her know in a nice calm voice that her behavior was not acceptable and she has not done it since. |
