Bath time?! How often does my yorkie need a bath? Once a week seems to be to often! :animal-pa |
I bathe Levi on average once a week. Sometimes he can go a few days longer, sometimes he spends more time that usually outside rolling around in dirt and mud. His bathtime ends up being on an "as-needed" basis, usually every 5-8 days. It does seem often, but my little guy spends a lot of time outdoors (walks, dog park, etc) and even when we are inside, he gets pretty mischievous. |
We live out in the country and have two big labs. Huxtyn LOVES to be outside playing with them! lol so needless to say he gets really dirty and smelly pretty often!! |
I only bathe mine once every 2 weeks in the winter but they arent outside alot in the winter. In the warmer months once a week |
Also, do you put any conditioner on them? Someone told me that they put human conditioner on their yokie... I didn't know if that was safe for them or not? |
Human conditioner is fine but not human shampoo. Our ph is different from dogs. I use pantene conditioner and have for years and it works very well for me |

I bath Poppy usually once every 2 weeks, unless she gets dirty. |
I try to do 1x per week. When winter hits I may be every 2 weeks. I use Perfect Coat (hypoallergenic, no perfumes, dyes) shampoo and Bio-Groom Silk Conditioning Creme rinse |
I have been giving Riley a bath every other Sunday. |
We bathe our babies at least once a week! On Cookie who has thicker hair I do not use a conditioner but on Izzy who has fine hair I use a dog conditioner! |
Every Saturday morning is bath time for the 3 of them. |
Once a week! Sometimes Troy doesn't make it past 4 days because he goes outside, plays and I don't want a funky dog sleeping with me. I don't think it's unreasonable to bathe once a week. |
Once a week here. Lizzy's coat looks awful otherwise, even with daily brushing. |
My 4 get a bath every 2 weeks. I put the drying towel in the dryer for a few minutes so it's warm for them. I use milksheen shampoo. I love how they smell and feel after a bath. :D |
I bathe Fido every friday :) But when he's shaved down, I bathe him every other friday cause he gets less dirty with short coat :) When he has very long coat I bathe him every 5-7 days. He has very thick coat, not cottony, just very very thick silky coat (he has the same kind of fur as my friends shih tzu! very weird, but her shih tzu has weather proof coat ,not my yorkie, but its not cottony). I always use conditioner, dog conditioner :) I use the Pet Silk products. I shampoo him twice with Pet Silk Rainforest Shampoo, and condition him once with Pet Silk Rainforest Conditioner, after the bath (before I dry the coat) I spray all over him Pet Silk Rainforest Leave-In Conditioner :D then I blowdry him :) And afterwards (If he has to look extra nice) I put 1-2 drops of Pet Silk Liquid Silk Serum in his coat, it turns so SHINY when I do that! and it straightens the coat completily! Pet Silk products are the best I know of :) |
Thank you everyone!! :D |
mine are once a week or once every two weeks in the winter. they both have allergies and both get dry skin so in the winter we bathe less and less and in the summer we bathe off the allergens more often. we use allergroom shampoo. soap free hypoallergenic and no conditioner, although maybe we should. best bet is to bathe when they get smelly :D |
Once a week. He seems to get too smell if we wait much longer |
i only bathe mine once a month or more. Which he isnt outside ever ( thats another issue) but i thought u werent supposed to bathe them too often.. |
Edward gets a bath every monday or tuesday! and now that its getting colder im going back to once every 2 or 3 weeks! I use Chris Christensen shampoo and conditioner. |
I bathe all mine once every other week when they get stinky I do it once a week. Once a week is fine! :D |
I bathe my guys every two weeks, but they really don't have doggie odor then...I believe it's because I feed raw...I remember Apple smelling a little musky, after about a week, before raw, but now she and the other two, don't smell bad, but their hair gets oily....I bathed them last night :D |
I have had Bella since the 14 of September and I have not bathed her yet. She only goes out to potty and she is not dirty. She sleeps in the bed with me and she smells fresh. I brush her twice a day and wash her eyes and always check her hiney. I have had other breeds of dogs and they went to the groomers every 3 months. I was always told to bath a dog too much would dry their skin and coat out. |
I was wondering the same thing recently, I do Harley every 2 weeks, sometimes he can get a bit longer if he isn't outside. But he's a rough little feller for sure, he loves the water and mud. I use Isle of Dogs products, shampoo and conditioner. I love it cause it comes in a black coat enriching formula. You have to dilute it, but other than that, it's simple to use, and lasts forever with these little guys. |
Once a week here..Bella is outside a lot she loves it out there so I have to bath once a week and sometimes twice cause she loves to roll in smelly stuff that the kitties drag in the yard  |
I say give them a bath as needed depending on how dirty or smelly they are. I give Bentley a bath once every two weeks but if his been real active out side once a week. Sometimes I even just use deodorizer on him if I recently bathed him and he is smelly. |
