Why does my Bella stick her tongue out all of the time I have noticed that my Bella sticks her tongue out and it stays there. She is so dang cute, but I am curious if there is a reason why she does this. |
I hear a lot of females do it.. My friend has 2 females and they stick the tounge out a lot haha!! Pnut never does its soooo darn cute! :D |

My little Sadie does it all the time. It is so cute. When I tell her to give me a kiss. It is cold on the tip of her little tongue. See sometime has a hard time getting it unstuck from her lip. lol |

We had a whole thread with tongue pictures at one time -- they are cute that way. Some reasons some may do it more than others though could be: --If they are missing a tooth or teeth. This is more common in older dogs. --Their bite may be off and it is just more comfortable for them to let the tongue hang out. This is not the best for breeding or show, but usually nothing you can do about it. This is probably a very common reason. Yorkies are notorious for teeth problems. --Sometimes we keep our homes warmer than they like it. Sticking their tongue out cools them off. |
Taylor does it.. usually when he's being unusally cute or just been in trouble. I think he knows he's too cute to be mad at for very long.. lol. Beth and Taylor |
If there's not a mechanical reason for them to do it, then they do it because they know they look really cute with it showing! (JK) :D |
Sammy does it sometimes too. I thought maybe because he had some extraction, but I agree with others, maybe they do it just because it's too cute!!!!! |

Layla does this, and it seems to happen more when she's tired! Sometimes when she's really sleepy, I can just touch the tip of her nose and the end of her tongue pops out like a button lol! And she's too tired to pull it back in. She sleeps a lot with it partially hanging out! |
Zoe my shorkie does it all the time but mostly when she's been running around or at the end of the day when she' s tired. Zach my Yorkie does it when he's been rough housing and is pooped. |
Thanks everyone, I was just making sure that there is not something wrong with her. I love her so much and now she has become so close to our family. She sleeps with me at night now. She follows me in and hops on my bed and curls right up beside me. I am inlove with the Yorkie breed. |
Cute! My yorkie doesn't really do that but My Lhasa Apso does. She has a slight under bite and her toung sticks out too like that. She's cute. |
Bentley does it. it's out most of the time and esp. when he's sleeping. i wiggle it when he's sleeping sometimes because it's almost like it dries out and gets hard so i want him to lick to detach it from his lips and wet it again. lol it's so cute but i think he's bite is messed up or his tongue is too long that it doesn't fit in his closed mouth. who knows he's cute anyways |

I agree it's super cute, but I think it's really important for people to know: **** IT CAN BE A SIGN YOUR DOG IS STRESSED **** Licking the lips is an "appeasement signal", done in situations the dog believes might escalate into violence. It's the canine equivalent of putting your palms out - "hey, I'm not looking for any trouble here." That's actually how I got my avatar shot. Thor, like many dogs, is camera-shy. He also tends to stick his tongue out at the end of a training session when his brain gets tired. He likes getting treats, but it can also be an anxiety-provoking situation for him if he can't figure out what he's supposed to do. If your dog is falling asleep with the tongue hanging out, that's totally fine. They may open their mouths because they are excited, or just a little hot. However, if you notice that the tongue comes out whenever you approach your dog, or pick him up, or kiss him, or whatever, it's a sign that your dog interprets your behavior as threatening. |

Tongue sticks out Yesterday at Princess' first Puppy trainning the trainer questioned me about her tongue sticking out. I was surprised that she would mention this and came to YT to check it out. After reading the postings I'm more releaved that this is not something medical that I should be worrying about. Thank you all for your input on this site, it's great to have a place to come to and find out more about our furbabies. We love her so much, she's been with us today for a week and a half and we are totally in love with her. Many thanks again. |
Scarlett's tongue hangs out when ever she's extremely relaxed. It's adorable when she does it. |
