What would you do?
 

Hello everyone, I am new here. I am expecting my bundle of joy in 9 more days. He's a boy and he will be 12 weeks old.

So I pose a question for you all:

What advice would give a new mommy? Looking for all advice. I haven't had a dog in over 7 years, I miss him terribly. I finally got the courage to get another one, I guess I am getting nervous. Don't get me wrong, I am so thrilled. Just nervous. So what would you say to someone like me?

Just relax and enjoy. Be ready to fall in love, then the rest justs falls into place.

i would say just do what you're doing. gather your supplies for him and when you get him, ENJOY! good luck and we'll be waiting for pictures...

Follow your gut instincts. It's like having a baby, things will come to you as you are bonding! Also, ask questions on YorkieTalk. There are always people around to help.

I would say get every thing ready for your new babie read up on every thing you can.ask as many questions as you want and enjoy.

:) Don't forget patience especially in the housebreaking area. They are really full of energy but they are a wonderful joy to have. After all they are our babies.

make sure he is eating...if he is not eating, make sure he is taking Nutri-Stat a finger tip full like twice or 3 times aday...i learned this a little late....but that is my best advise, otherwise low blood sugar could cause some problems...other than that....get ready for some fun and some love!

You are all great! Thanks so much. I guess I have the new mommie syndrome. I can't wait to go get him. I think about him all day long, it's obsessive! What a blessing to have found this site.

As far as housetraining, I don't expect it to happen overnight. I am very patient, I think mostly I am just worried about keeping him healthy, and finding a schedule-so he knows what to expect. Also feeding and water, because the Yorkies are so tiny, I suspect they eat less food than say a lab.

There is so much, I really just want to love him. I went to the "Bag of Bones" Store here. It really is neat, I got some sweaters (it's cold here) some booties, a harness to walk him (how do you feel about these?), some stainless steel mini bowls. Lots of treats and toys!! :)

I also bought the Yorkshire Terriers for Dummies book. The stores here are great, they actually have a bakery for your baby. They make homemade treats. They also have Puppy Parties. I can not believe how much is available out there.

It's seems that you are on the right track. Yes they do eat considerably less than a lab. Just make sure that you supplement with Nutra Cal. The rest will fall into place. There are great people here to answer you questions as they arise. I can't wait to see pictures of your little guy.

i'd like to welcome you to yorkieforums. we are fairly new parents (we've had Vinnie almost two months) and although I grew up with plenty of pets and always a new experience. I treated Vinnie the same way I did when my kids were born. I slept with him the first few days; I even took a day off of work the first day we adopted him to make him feel comfortable. this is such a great place and everyone has been a ton of help. i read a lot and was considering buying a yorkie book as well but this is like a live book that responds to every question that i could possibly come up with. we look forward to seeing pictures when they become available.

And congrats on your new baby coming....all you need is lots of love, patience and a great camera....they will grow and learn things so fast that one day you will wake up and they will be all grown up...take each day one a time and every thing will be fine!! Ask lots of questions and read whatever you can....and treasure everyday you have with them!!

I would decide where to put a place for her in the house and make it as familiar to her as possible. If you have a chance to put a baby blanket or a bed in her pen at the breeders, that would be great. Ask the breeder if you can trade a toy, so you can bring something that she will recognize. There will be so many changes for your little one, see what you can do to keep a few things the same.

Welcome & Congratulations!! You are about to begin the most fun you will ever have in your life!! :) You will learn new things every single day and some you will find useful, some won't apply to your lifestyle. Like Shelbysmom said, she will need a familiar place all her own. Our Toto was 16 weeks when we brought her home .... we put an X-pen in the corner of the dining room right next to the kitchen [where most of the action is!] ... in that we put her wee wee pad, her little food stand for water & food, a little bed, toys, etc. We set it up configured one panel wide & 3 panels long ... plenty of room! That's her "safe place" where we only close the door if we have to go someplace and cannot take her [which is very rare]. Otherwise, she has the run of the entire house ... if someone comes to visit and she feels afraid or threatened, she goes to her pen all on her own!! :) Also, we had great success teaching her not to chew .... we bought every chew toy we could find and anytime those little lips even looked like they wanted to be somewhere they shouldn't, we simply offered her a chew toy of her own. After she cut her permanent teeth, we didn't even have to worry about it ... if she wants to chew, she finds a chew toy in her toy box all by herself!
