Zach's Neutering Postponed Zach was scheduled to be neutered on Saturday but yesterday he ate almost a whole dish of cat food that I forgot to put on the counter. Now he has diarrhea. He's acting normal but I called the vet to ask them what I should do and they told me as long as he has diarrhea they can't operate on him. I was all psyched also. I had a screaning done and everything was a go. Now the closest date they can give me is Dec 18th which will make Zach 7 months olld. I really didn't want to wait that long but the vets around here are expensive and the place I bring him to is affordable. I don't know what to do. Should I spend the extra money and get him done sooner or is it safe to wait another month and a half. I know my other dogs were done at over 7 months and they were fine but Zach is such a little shrimp I don't want to put him in danger. |
My little guy just got nuetered yesterday and we had to wait because his one testicle wasn't dropping... It never did drop so the vet had to fix the problem, during the nuetering process. Because of this I had to wait longer than usual to get Rafa nuetered...he's a little over a year now and he did a great job and was completely fine. So I wouldn't worry about waiting a little longer to get your baby nuetered. |
My guy was 3 1/2 years old when he was neutered. He was having another surgery and the vet called and asked if I wanted him neutered at the same time. He was fine. Good Luck!! |
I wouldn't worry about waiting until December. My teeny guy was neutered at 9 months. Actually, if your guy is a wee one it's all the better. It gives him 5 or 6 more weeks to put on some more weight. That's why I waited as long as I did. |
I had to call the vet yesterday afternoon because Zach's poop was watery and there was some blood in the stool. The vet told me as long as he was eating, drinking and playing just to feed him rice and boiled chicken with some boiled sweet potatoes and plain yogart. So that's what I've been feeding him. He seems to be much better now except his poop is still a bit soft but no blood and it's not watery. If he keeps getting better I have to bring him in next Saturday with a stool sample just to check him out. They told me if he gets worse to call them back and they will see him sooner but if he keeps getting better I can wait. |
That's good news. A lot of the time cat food is simply just too "rich" for dogs of any size. It's all meat since cats are carnivores. The bloody stool could be from the diarrhea itself, so if it is cleared up, that is good. The vets recommendation on food allows for fiber (to bulk up the stool) and protein but will be gentle on the stomach. As far as waiting, I personally prefer that you wait until they do have more weight on them before the anesthesia due to the risks. Congrats on your baby! Glad is better!! :) |
Well his stool is starting to firm up a little bit. Still a little soft though. I've been giving him chicken with sweet potato and lean chop mean with no fat and sweet potato. He seems to do better without the dog food right now. He won't eat rice though I put it in his food the other day and he ate all the meat and left the rice. I don't know when to start him on his dog food again. I bought plain yogart to mix in with his food. |
