hello hi i have a puppy called tilly she is about 14 weeks and i want to grow her hair to just off ground level. do i need to clip the belly hair short or let it grow? and how do i get her to stay still so i can brush her? |
I am afraid that I cannot answer your question, but I wanted to say :welcome4:! You will find a lot of good people and information here!! |
Hi there and welcome. First off, it will take a while before her hair gets long. Usually it takes about 2 years for their coat to be full length to the floor. If you want it to grow long, then I would not cut it at all. I would trim the butt area and the ears (I usually have the groomer clean up their paws also), not the belly?? I don't really think its needed there. Anyway, what I do to brush them out: Usually after dinner, when we sit down in front of the TV, I will hold my little one up in my lap and put a chewy treat (I use a greenie) between my knees. She will be busy chewing on the treat and then I brush her out, without her moving around at all. The paws are a different story, for some reason she hates when I brush them, but I am real quick when it comes to the paws and of course, I praise her a lot when I am done. My Coco is a lot older now and she really doesn't need me giving her a treat to brush her - she just sits for me and she enjoys it now. Good luck! |
this is tilly |
Our puppy just turned 4mos, so she's still definitely in the wiggle stage. One thing we found helpful is to put her on something warm for a bit to calm her down first. Sometimes it takes us wrapping her up in a towel with the warm compress so she can't get away. |
:aimeeyork Ohhhh....I remember those days!!! My 'lil Sassafras was SUCH a wigglge worm I thought I'd NEVER see the day when she would be comfortable getting her hair brushed!!! BUT with a LOT of patience, praise and TLC she finally let me do it without a problem. I just took it VERY slowly, giving her a break every few minutes and give her treats. It is also VERY important to use the right tools. I was blessed with a groomer that actually let me bring her in and teach me how to brush her hair so as not to hurt her and gave showed me the right tools and supplies to use. TRUST me , not many groomers will do that!!! I suggestb you check out the grooming section on this site and check out the videos. There are some groomers that are members here too and I am sure they would be happy to advise you too. :aimeeyork |

Hello and welcome to YT!!! What a cute baby! Love the close up! I don't know about the grooming question because all of our are short. You might want to search over in the Breeder's section under Breeders/Grooming/Travel and check there. Be sure to keep the pictures coming! She's adorable! |
