Can't get Harlow to potty outside! I can't seem to get Harlow to use the potty outside! I take her out a lot but when we get out there she doesn't understand what she's supposed to do. She just bites at leaves and hops around. Then when we go inside she tries to potty. I'm using the go here spray to try to get her to go. Ugh! I need help! |
I found Poppy really started to catch on when I started to give her treats. She is a greedy little thing and now she only gets treats when she potties outside, she still has the odd accident but things have got a whole lot better. Does Harlow have any favourite treats? |
She really likes these beef flavored puppy treats I give her when training. And other than that she likes baked chicken lol whenever my dad has leftovers from dinner lol |
Which ever treats she really likes I would recommend you give her one everytime she potties outside. :) Good luck! Also has she tried cheese? most dogs love cheese :) |
Is she on a leash when you take her out? As a pup, Jackson also would be forgetful and get too distracted with leaves, etc. I had to put him on a leash for him to potty. Whenever he went, we had a potty party! LOL. "Yay! Good boy!" and give him a treat. |
Yeah she's on a leash. I would never let her out without one because there's no fence around my house. She still gets distracted even on the leash |

When she does go make a really big deal out of it and jump up and down with joy - don't pay any attention if the neighbors think you're crazy!:D Just get it across to her that she has done something great. Do this everytime she goes until she's housebroken and then a little praise will still be appreciated.;) You might try giving her a tiny treat or even a cheerio, if she likes them, as a potty treat! I have a fence, but if we are elsewhere she's on a leash and I have found that holding the leash steady and not letting her travel all over will usually get her to potty when I want her to. |

I will have to try that. I live in ga and it's getting rather cold here lately, especially in the early morning and late at night. Is it still ok to take her out to potty? |

My Bella is 4 months old and she is being trained to potty outside. I take her out on a leash also and tell her to go potty. In the beginning she would go,but then come back in and do it on the floor. I then tried the treat approach, that worked for me. I use cheerios or the small caeser treats and she loves them. It is hysterical because now we go out and I give the command and she goes then looks at me and licks her lips. It didn't take her long to catch on. She now goes to the door and then looks at me or comes to me and then runs to the door to go out. I am so pleased with her. I am with her all day and it was a lot of work to get to this point, but well worth it. I just hope when the snow comes she doesn't have a set back. She hates to go out when it rains so we will have to wait and see. Just be patient with her and praise, praise, praise and it will all work out. good Luck |
I have no advice as I'm indoor training my puppy, but I just wanted to say I loooove your puppy's name! |
