Biggest Yorkie Challenge Raising a Yorkie? Hi All, I was just wondering what your biggest challenge has been in raising a yorkie & how you dealt with it? Was it housebreaking? Barking? Chewing? Introducing them to another pet? Just curious... Thanks for sharing! |

Ha! My biggest problem is not spoiling them totally rotten, because they're so darn cute and it's difficult not to cave in to their every whim! |
My biggest challenge has been to force myself to, "Put that dog down!", LOL. I could hold my Riley all day and half the night, he's just so wonderful.:aimeeyork |
I would say housebreaking. But it's more my fault for not being more diligent and having 4 yorkies. ANy of my yorkie problems are from me spoiling them. I am trying to get control back. lol |
Housebreaking. And not being able to resist all the cute clothes. |
I would definitely say housebreaking. They have been both really good dogs, so the occasional accident is really the only hard thing about raising them :) |
For me the biggest problem was health problems first Gatsby had a allergic reaction to vaccines then one to flea meds (advantage) then because we had to wash off the flea meds so no more soaked into his blood stream he ended up with flea anemia and he had to have a transfusion now because he was under 6 months old this messed up his his ability to produce red blood cells so now he has chronic anemia during his transfusion his heart stopped because he was allergic to the anesthetic so now because i was dragging my heels about his neuter I cant have it done. a more common hardest part he puts everything in his mouth superglue, those brown sticky things from bushes, chap-stick,pencils, the filter out of my cat water fountain blankets |
Honestly, my biggest challenge is to make sure that she gets the proper exercise and play time that she needs. I might be too tired sometimes, but I try to do these things anyway. She spends the day with me at work, but that isn't the same kind of fun for her. |
I spend 2 much money on cute clothes |
I think my biggest challenge is.... spending money on him! It's sooo easy to find adorable things and yummy treats and anything he else his heart desires, and I spend entirely WAY too much money on my dog. Second biggest challenge is probably just the amount of attention and exercise he can require. |
Honestly, I think my biggest problem is that I let Levi get away with almost anything. He has boundaries and he definitely knows them and obeys them most of the time. He knows the word "no," and he knows the command "out" (our word for drop it), but for example, sometimes he just looks so cute holding a pair of socks in his little mouth that I just let him play with them anyway. He's just too cute for his own good. |
My biggest challenge was worrying all the time...I'd never had such a tiny dog, and I worried about everything...Now, Apple is almost two (October 31st) and I've chilled out, gotten another yorkie (Buzz is 15 months) and a Chorkie (Cha Cha is about 19 months) and I'm doing better... |
Barking and potty training were my issues. Rhia is 2.5 and still sometimes has an accident here or there. Usually it's because she gets SO excited when I get home or because of someone coming over. I just have to watch her extra carefully and take her out as soon as she gets excited. Barking is something that has just begun, since I just moved into an apartment. I like having the window open for the breeze when it's nice out, but as soon as she sees someone walk by.. OHMAN. She barks her little head off at them then runs to me, as if to report her findings. XD As cute as it is, it has to stop. She's getting better at it as we go. :) |
