Never A Dull Moment I just came back from the emergency with Zach for a change. He went out on the wrong side of the backyard and somehow he got a brance full of thorns stuck on him from his neck down to his back legs. It was so close to his skin that I was afraid to cut it off him and the branch was sticking right up to his neck. Even with my friend holding him we couldn't get him still enough to cut it loose so we rushed him to the emergency vet and they had to cut it off. The vet said I was really lucky because that branch could have gone right through his neck. Did I say I wanted another dog? I don't think my nerves could take another Zach. Every day he's into something. I spend more time in emergency with him then I do in my home. |
Poor little Zach (and poor you)! I'm glad that it didn't turn into a tragedy. I thought I had it made having a chiropractor for a BF. Maybe a vet would have been a better choice -- I spend a heck of a lot more on vet bills than I did on chiropractic. Just kidding -- kinda. |
I'm glad Zach's ok, and I'm glad you were able to get him the help he needed. I've had many different dogs over the years, and Joey's my first small dog and my first Yorkie. In the first year, I had to take him to the emergency room twice, none of my other dogs ever had to go to the emergency room, but things that wouldn't harm a larger breed, can kill a yorkie, so I suggest everyone budget in emergency room fees! Just like new parents have to "baby proof" their homes, Yorkie owners have to ”yorkie proof" their homes and yards. Your reminder might help prevent someone else from having this happen, so thanks for posting! |
Zach is home sleeping outside of the fact that he ruined his new haircut a little bit he's fine. I had to block off the other side of the yard so he can't get over there. My heart is still racing. Zach doesn't have a care in the world. Sometimes I wish I was born a dog and living with someone like me. |
Oh no! Those thorns can get nasty.... especially when you have a hold of a piece and the dog takes off running ! Ouch! Glad you're on your toes! At least he gets you out of the house!:) And Yorkie-proof your wallet! |
Maxine never got into Cactii in AZ, but old Carlo walked right into a Jumping Cholla Field.....had hundreds of jish hook like needles in him, everywhere, even his mouth as he tried to rip them out. We walked miles back home mlike that, took him to the Vet in Anthem, AZ who had to knock himn out and work on him for 4 hours to get them all out. He learned what they were real fast and never had a problem. Glad your little one is fine. |
Im glad he is fine thorns are terrible two summers ago Gatsby ate a bramble and we wear three hours from a vet thankfully he was fine after some bread and pumpkin |
Poor Zach! I know what you mean -- Ben got one of those smilex thorny vines caught in his coat too, but not nearly as severe as you describe. Still it was very difficult to get out. The more they wiggle the tighter to the skin it gets. You were smart to get him straight to the vet to free him from that thing. Glad everything came out okay. |
Ouch. I am glad he is resting comfortably now. I hope your nerves can settle for a little bit. |
So glad he's ok. |

Thats the BEST advice EVER!!!! so true, so true!!! I have a Shay savings account..seriously...he is such a lil guy, and first yr we did 2 trips to emergency room too, thank god, it wasnt a huge bill (and he was fine) but sometimes it doesnt have to be huge, for it to be a hardship! |
Whoops ....I must of backspaced to far..and my note on Zach dissappeared..... I am so happy to hear Zach is okay, how scary that must of been...{hugs}} |
Oh, my goodness! I'm glad Zach is ok and I hope you recover soon.:) |
