Found a yorkie today... help?
 
Hi!

I don't have a yorkie (I show and breed maltese) but I was hoping someone could help me.

Today I found a yorkie when I went to pick up my kids from school. He was running around and kids were kicking at him and he also had no concept of street safety. My 11 yr old daughter picked him up and we brought him home.

I've put up fliers, put ads in papers and craigslist (and fidofinder) took him to the vet to be scanned for a microchip (he had none) and he was not wearing a collar. He is a very sweet boy but is a matted mess. He is also NOT NEUTERED :thumbdown.

Does anybody know of a yorkie rescue in california that I can call about him, if his owners do not contact me? I absolutely cannot keep this dog, unfortunately and I sure do not want to hand him over to the SPCA.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

I found this sticky note in the Library on the forum. It gives some good ideas on how to go about what to do if you find a Yorkie. Good luck. There is possibly someone out there that is frantically looking for this little one. No telling how far he has traveled. I hope the owners can be found.

I am so glad your daughter picked him up and brought him home to you! I can't believe other kids were kicking at the poor dog. Hope you can find a rescue for him.

That is exactly what I thought :-(
I had to tell my husband. It saddens me that kids would kick the poor little guy. I am glad your daughter played hero!:thumbup:

Yes, kids were kicking him, it was very hard to watch!! My daughter is 11 and shows heavily in junior showmanship (has qualified for Westminster and Eukanuba this year, and will be showing at both) so to say she is very into dogs is an understatement! When she brought him over to the car, I had to bring him home. I couldn't let her 'release' him, I'm sure he would not have fared well.

Sounds like you are getting good advice on rescues,etc.

It also sounds like your daughter is an animal lover and has a good heart.

Nobody has called to claim this guy. :(

I am going to a show this weekend and not sure if the hubby will 'let' me keep this dog here while I am gone. Anybody in my area who can help me out? I contacted a few rescues but nobody has gotten back to me. will keep trying!!

Although he is matted, his toe nails are short and his paw pads are trimmed, so somebody has taken care of him recently!

awwwww I wish I could take him! Thank you for picking him up though. It saddens me that there are kids out there that would physically hurt a small helpless animal. Especially if they ever knew how sweet and loving yorkies are and just want to be pet and wag their little stubs at everyone. :(

I don't think it is, I just looked up Visalia on a map and it's not near Long Beach, which is were Benjamin was from, not Laguna Beach. It would be one of those miraculous stories, though. Here's the Benjamin stolen thread :http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...kidnapped.html

he does have the floppy ears. its hard to tell... my stomached dropped at the thought.... ive got so many pics i can email so the person who found them can compare. you never know.

btw. sorry for my disappearance. i have been trying to move on and coming to yorkie talk made it hard. i still lose sleep thinking about him sometimes :(

I am sitting here in tears after seeing your video. I cannot even express how sorry I am. I hope you find your baby....never give up hope. Sometimes they show up far from home and after a long time. I pray that he is in good hands until hopefully he can be returned to you. I cannot imagine your pain. :(

Watching the video of Benjamin is heart wrenching, I cannot even imagine losing my beloved yorkies, my heart breaks fro you Christine, I hope some day you are reunited.

I sure wish it was your little Benjaman! BUT I think your guy is cuter than this one, has a cuter face. I am not entirely certain if he's a badly bred Yorkie or a badly bred silky because he's not bred standard for either.

Does not look like a silky to me. Definitely looks yorkie! Poor little guy. :( I wish I were closer so I could help.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look. I really hope he finds his way home. ... Ya.. Benjamin was 5-6lbs.. so it couldn't be him.
