Needs Guidence! Hi everyone! Okay so I have encountered hard financial times (who hasn't) and I have decided to do most of my Yorkie's grooming at home. However, I want to cut both of their nails but I'm scared! Since both their nails are very dark I don't want to hit the quik. Can anyone post a video or link or give me pointers on how to cut my babies nails for the first time? PLEASE! I really need guidance and I feel kinda dumb for not knowing and I am very nervous on the possibility of hurting them unintentionally! Oh yea also, I've looked in Youtube but the videos are very vague and don't show how to identify the quik. Thanks in advanced everyone! Bambino,Lulu and Nathalie |
If you go to the "grooming talk" section of the board, there is a sticky there with directions/video for nail clipping. |
There is an excellent grooming section on this forum. This is one of the threads there: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ons-video.html Hope it helps:) |

The one thing you must remember is that when you hold the paw in your hand to make sure you keep a firm grip close to the base of the nail. In other words the movement of the nail is what causes them undo comfort. Do not clip past the arch of nail, in other words where it begins to curve is. If you do, you are in danger of causing bleeding. Keep sceptic powder or quick stop on hand. I've trained mine to lay on their backs, on my lap for nail clipping. Some will lay on their tummies and hand me their paw. The thing you are going to have to learn is what works best for you. Some do well while they are in the bath. Bending the paw backward so, they can't see the clipper coming toward them. Or you can use a strong emery board and file them down. |
Oh man! I didn't know there was a grooming section...Sorry everyone I'm still learning how to maneuver around! I'm definitely looking into it now. Thanks Everyone! Bambino,Lulu and Nathalie |
