Be prepared!! This morning, my mother, who is in her 80's and lives with me dropped one of her medications on the floor. My IG puppy grabbed it and proceeded to swallow it before I could get to her. When I asked my mother what it was she told me it was the "green one." As I start going through my options and out of my mind, like find the bottle with the green pills, get online to find out if it's harmful, on and on, I decide to go with hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. I had no idea how much to give, but gave her three cc's from an oral syringe, waited a few minutes and gave her three more. It worked like a charm! After the struggle with the second dose, I put her down and a few seconds later she threw up a bunch of foam with a few pieces of food, some greenish blue stuff in it (the coating from the pill) and the pill. I was totally amazed. So please, be prepared, have hydrogen peroxide and an oral syringe in your pet emergency kit, just in case if you have to induce vomiting. Here is an article on it How to Induce Vomiting (Emesis) in Dogs |
That' s scary. I am so glad you thought quickly. Glad it worked out well for you. |
Oooh, how scary! |
Great reminder! Thank goodness you were well prepared and reacted so fast. I know some of my pills would be harmless but one could be fatal to pup! Putting a new bottle of hydrogen peroxide on my shopping list now. Going to keep an extra bottle in the kitchen cabinet. |
Oh, it was cymbalta, btw, and I did try to find out what the harm would be to dogs, but couldn't, at least quickly, online. I would have had to go with the ASPCA poison hotline or take her to a vet. |
Glad you were quick thinking and gave the HP. I always keep it on hand and have had to use it twice. |
OMGOSH:eek: Thank goodness you reacted quick & your baby is alright!!! Thanks for posting this because I had no idea that peroxide induced vomiting. I bookmarked the link just incase. I will be making sure to have peroxide just for this purpose. Thank You! |

Thanks for posting the number, I would have had to look it up this morning. Also for posting the link to the poison control center. One of the articles they had was the top 10 human meds that poison pets: ASPCA | Top 10 Human Medications That Poison Our Pets  I've added the number in my contacts. I have to say, I could not believe how effective the hydrogen peroxide was! |
