Stupid dog??? Stupid children I think. So Robbo and I were enjoying a nice walk together and stopped to play with his ball when 3 children walking with their grandparents ran over to where I threw his ball and picked it up before he got to it. I held my tongue as I thought the child who was about 9 was just going to throw it but she didn't. She then pretended to throw it a few times, with Robbo just looking at her so I walked over to get it off her and as I was walking towards them she threw it but Robbo stayed still as he thought she was still pretending. The grandfather then said in a loud voice.... "Stupid dog" and did a loud nasty obnoxious laugh so which I responded "stupid children" and walked away with the ball and Robbo! Lol. This happened a few months ago but thinking about it still makes me so mad! I mean Robbo would have run after it if the kid had not been teasing him. If he had been a large dog like a rottie or dob then there is no way that the grandparents would have allowed their children to pick its ball up and tease it! So why is it ok with a small dog? Grrrr....anyways thought I would off load and check I was not over-reacting LOL! Hope you are all well! |
Hooray for you! How very rude of the grandparents! No wonder the children are the way they are. Look where they learned it from. |
Urgh that is so rude! I actually made a total scene today... not over Poppy but over a cat that lives in my BFs street. This cat is lovely and so tame, it sits and waits on the wall for my BF and will follow anyone for a stroke, its such a lovable and trusting little thing. Anyway I was picking my BF up after I had finished work tonight and I was sitting in my car waiting for him and the cat was sitting on the wall. A group of 3 children who looked around 10 years old walked past, one girl picked the cat up and I could see it was screaming to be down because she was swinging it about. The cat must have scratched her because she dropped it. The cat ran and sat on the front door step to the house where it lives and to my horror this evil little kid ran over and started kicking it and chasing it. I jumped out of the car and went mad LOL I was shouting and screaming at these kids, probably going a bit over the top as they were children but I really couldnt believe what I had just seen. What made it worse is that I work for the ambulance service and my uniform looks very much like a police uniform so they looked like they had seen a ghost, they must have thought I was a policewomen. I bet they went home and moaned to there mothers, the police will probably get a complaint that one of their officers verbally abused their children hahahah! God I was so angry, but atleast they left the cat alone... little brats. :) Some children really have no respect for animals.. I blame the parents. |
I blame the parents, too. |
That is just rude. Parents should teach their children it's not nice to tease dogs. And, it shows your dog is smart, as he was not willing to indulge that child by picking up the ball after she was teasing him. :P |
how terrible, i hate it when parents allow there children to run in my yard and pet my dogs most times they even encourage it by saying things like "oh look at the cute tiny dog" My soon to be foster dog it mean he is old and blind and only likes select children im going to put up a sign that says mean dog if you approach and loose a finger i will not be held responsible i think the idea alone will scare people off I really hate it when parents let there children get way with crazy stuff |
Children should be taught not to tease animals. These grandparents are not setting a very good example for their grandchildren. Shame on them!!! |
So glad I was not alone in thinking that but I just feel that there have been 4 cases of dog attacks on kids recently in Scotland, calling for harsher laws for dog owners, which in some respects I agree with, but a lot of dog attacks probably would not happen if kids knew how to act around them and not stick their hands forward and taunt them! |
I think stupid children/adults too. Very frustrating. Glad you were able to tell them off in the moment. Unfortunately, I often cannot think of something good to say back right away ... but a few minutes later I think up a zinger! ;) |
I have worked at two pet stores and have had to tell children to stop terrorizing our animals many times. From pecking at the glass on hamster cages to whacking their hands against the bird cages. It's ridiculous how so many parents won't teach their children to respect animals. Good for you on what you said. If I wouldn't lose my job I'd be saying the exact same. |
Bravo way to go. My kids actually defended a dog one time we were getting gas and where I live there are animals all over. Knowing me I would have every tom cat and stray dog there is but it just so happened that this dog it looked like it was a border collie was hanging around the entrance well someone came out and the dog got excited he was waiting for his "next meal" well the guy kicked the dog out of he way the poor dog yelped before I could get to the dog he ran off in fear well my kids told the man that he was a mean bully for kicking the dog, and I didn't have nice words either. The man scuffed and walked away I called him a some what nasty word! My kids and I go around to dumpsters to put food in bowls twice a week it breaks my heart how these animals are treated and some have the balls to call themselves Christians please!? They are God's creatures too! Why are they so different? My kids are just a much animals lovers as I am!!! |
Good for you! Quote:

Ugh. So annoying! I guess I'm one of those "dog people" that finds kids pestering dogs to be super annoying. Whereas "kid people" find dogs in general to be a nuisance. lol. Anyways, I LOVE when kids actually ask "can I pet your dog!?" first because Jackson is nervous around kids, yet curious, and I am working hard on socializing him. So it always puts us one step back when an obnoxious kid won't leave him alone or comes up behind him and surprises him, etc. I realize kids will be kids, but dogs will also be dogs... the sad thing is when a dog bites a kid who was being obnoxious, it's the DOGS fault. :( |
Brit im with you I love when kids actually ask if they can pet my dog i usually go out of my way to make a big deal about it says something along the lines of Yes you may expecially since you asked me before you did it! it lets them know that respect them for asking and it kinda high fives there parents in the process..Kids these days! boy im only 26 and my nephews 14 but youde think we were worlds apart my brother and i could entertain ourselves for HOURS with blankets pennies and army men ( we made up an awesome game !) now a days its computer games and playstation lazy ass kids my mom always told us what her mom told her and what i'll tell my kids someday...Go outside and get the stink blown off ya! |
That just shows how smart your dog is...he knew she might be faking him out again...so to the grandfather who said "stupid dog" that really shows the guy's stupidity. Kendra |
