More Insurance Concerns: Petplan vs Embrace I am posting this in the general forum because I'm hoping to get enough responses and info to make this decision in the next day or two. (So I can get my money back from Petplan within the 30 day limit if I need to.) I signed Wobie up with Petplan almost a month ago. At that time, I searched the internet and scoured YT and found very positive reviews. Then a few people came forward and shared their bad experiences with Petplan here. Now I don't know whether to stay with Petplan, or move to Embrace, the only other pet insurance I would consider. My main concern about Embrace is that it only covers 25% of a chronic condition after the first year. To my knowledge, Petplan will continue to cover chronic conditions up to the annual limit each year. This seems to be one major benefit to sticking with Petplan. However, I don't want to stay with Petplan if they do not cover what they say they will cover, which seems to be a concern lately. I know there are many people here that have experince with these insurance companies. I would really appreciate you lovely YT people shedding some light on this topic and helping me with my decision. |
Before you limit it to just these two, have you looked at Trupanion? I am seriously considering switching to them from Embrace. I called and spoke to a representative at length today and I really like their setup. They also cover heriditary and congenital disorders, and they have no limits on payout per claim, per incident, or per year, or even lifetime (unlike Embrace's limit on chronic care coverage that you mentioned). A big plus for me is that they pay for medications unlike Embrace who only pays for medication administered by the vet. Oh, and they do not increase premiums as your pet ages or due to the amount of claims you file. I'd really love for someone else to look into them and see what they think. It sounds like great coverage to me. Here's the link Pet Insurance by Trupanion - Dog and Cat Pet Health Insurance |
I think I've looked at Trupanion before. I will definitely check them out right now and let you know what I think. Thank you! :D |
Wow Trupanion really is awesome. Thank you for letting me know about them. I never considered Trupanion because I was under the impression that they only enrolled puppies and kittens. I'm not sure why. |
I don't want it to sound like I'm trying to steer anyone away from Embrace. I've been with them for a year and have no complaints. But, that Petplan thread got me thinking about insurance again so I started to research a few other companies. So far, I'm impressed with what Trupanion has to offer to meet my needs. |

I just spoke with a really nice girl from Trupanion. It seems like their goal is to make their policy as simple and straightforward as possible. I am definitely seriously considering them. Thank you so much for bringing them to my attention. |
I signed up with them 30 days ago because they had a 60 day free trial with a $200. 00 deductible when you sign up for Dogster. I haven't had to use them yet so I don't have anything to say about them. The plan I choose is the $0.0 deductible. I'd love to here from anyone who has them how they like them. |
Hi Anna, I started the "I Fired Petplan" thread for reasons described therein. I chose HealthyPaws as my next in line. I spoke with the claims and operations manager last night (Jen Sherwood) and she is excellent. She can be reached at 425-516-7135. They are heavily involved in rescue efforts and funding which is very cool... |
