Licking... For the past few weeks Madison has started licking both my husband and me very frequently. She likes to lick our arms and fingers when we are holding her on our lap or when she is lying in bed with us. I wouldn’t be so concerned if it was something she did always, but she just started with the licking now (she is 14 months old). I have read that this could mean a number of things – she is hungry, she is being affectionate, or that maybe it’s a sign of dental problems!! Before Madison, I had a 130 lb Golden Retriever – not exactly your typical lap dog :D so I don’t know if this is normal or not! Any info on this is greatly appreciated!! THANKS :confused: |
She's being affectionate! Princess started doing that at a year old. I didn't know what to think, her vet said she's just a love bug. :D |
Logan licks a lot now too. He's only 6 months though. But he just started licking recently. I think he likes the taste of my lotion because he always really goes after licking my hands and face after I put it on in the morning. It also might have something to do with him losing teeth, but I don't know. |
Both Olivia and Aimee like to lick. They will lick any exposed part of your arms or legs or feet. They will keep it up for a long time. In the morning when I am getting ready for work I have to put socks on or they drive me nuts. They just move over to my husband. I don't know why they do it, they are healthy and happy. Maybe they are just trying to put a claim to us? Thank goodness they will stop when you say "no lick" at night in bed or we would have to have them sleep somewhere else. |
Geeezzzz. I thought that licking was part of their job!! I have 5 that sleep with me and my husband. They wait til his alarm goes off in the morning, then figure it's time for me to get up too! They gang up on me and I get kissed almost to death!! I have to get up in self-defense!! But it's a much better way to start the day off than some dumb ol' alarm clock!! Suz |
I've noticed recently that Joey (5 months old) is licking more and biting less. I sort of figured that he had to do something with his mouth so he was substituting licking for biting. Whatever the reason, I definitely like the licking better! |
Desi is a licker... If she gets up and I'm still sleeping she will lick my face until I wake up. |
Errol can't hold his licker, either. I think they're just letting you know how much they love you when they do that. :) |

Lexi will lick my face for about 5 minutes as soon as I get home from work. If she is close to my face, she will lick me for at least 1 minute. That happens when I am with her all day. I love it. When other people see her lick my lips, they get really grossed out. It's not like I open my mouth for french kisses.... geeeeeze. |
Susan licks too, especially my eyes. I know she loves me, but I SUSPECT she really likes eye makeup too! |
