Sweet Visit I have been going back and forth to the hospital a lot lately as my dad just had heart surgery. Other than kids, grand and great-grand kids, the only thing he has asked about are his dogs. He and my mom have Papillions and dachshunds. One of the Papillions is his "baby" named Sparkles. We had told him when he was allowed in a wheelchair we would wheel him down to the front door and bring his baby to him. Yesterday when I was visiting, there was a lady doing just that with her little Yorkie. She was a tiny one, cute as can be and you could tell they were both so glad to see each other. I stopped to talk with them a little. The lady's friend/family member had brought up the lady's yorkie as soon as she could get out of the room. We talked a little about how much good it does them both and how much they miss each other. I hope if I have to go in the hospital someone will do that for me! One more hospital story. When we were leaving the other day a poor little beagle was wandering lost and forlorn in the parking lot. The hospital is on a very busy street and we were afraid she would get out in traffic. She had a collar with a tag. We found a security man and he called his supervisor to tell him. He told him to go ahead and get the dog and they would call the humane society. He wound up having to get on his golf cart to get her but we watched and he coaxed her into it with him. You could tell he had a good heart and was genuinely worried about her too. That felt good! Hope they find her owner. |
Great stories! Those kind make my heart smile. They let you take your pets into the hospital rooms here. I'm glad they do. It's wonderful for people!:) |
That is so sweet. I too would want someone to bring my babies to visit me. I hope your Dad can see Sparkles soon. I know it will help his recovery. |
:yorkiej:That was a wonderful story. I'm glad they did bring her baby to see her. It probably boosted both their morale. :yorkiej: |
Great stories....animals are so healing. I sure wish your Dad's baby could stay right there in his room with him! That's so sweet that you're going to bring Sparkles to visit. I can't stand being away from my babies, so I can only imagine what your Dad is going through. And I'm sure Sparkles misses his Daddy so much! So glad the security guard was able to rescue the stray - they can be so tough to catch when they're scared like that, so I'm really glad the little dog was able to go to him. Happy story :). |

Your story about the pups visiting their people at the hospital gave me warm fuzzies.:) I hope that if I'm ever in that situation, someone will do that for me. I pray that little beagle finds his way home, poor guy. |
Sweet stories. Thanks for sharing:) I hope your dad is doing well. |
That is a great story! My grandmother has spent some time in both the hospital and a nursing home in the past year, and both places were great about letting Levi visit his great-grandmother. The nursing home always allows pets, but the hospital just turned a blind eye - we smuggled him in, but within the hour, every nurse knew he was there and came in to visit with him. My grandmother always appreciates Levi's visits, and I know your dad must be so excited to spend some time with Sparkles. |
What great stories :) It will be great for your Dad to see Sparkles. I hope that if I were ever in the hospital, someone would do that for me. |
Thanks for sharing these stories....they sure are day brighteners! |
This made me smile too. My uncle smuggled my Grandmother's poodle in so she could see her "one last time" too. The nurses did not say a thing. I was in the hospital for a week when I had only Baxter, and begged Hubby to bring him, but he is such a rule follower. He did bring me new pictures every day, boy was I glad to see him when I got to come home! |
How precious :) I used to work in housekeeping at a hospital. The only rule they have regarding animals is their visit has to be pre-approved. There was one older gentleman who would come in every night on his scooter with his Yorkie on his lap to visit his wife while she was a patient there. It just made my night all the better each time I saw them come in. |
It sure was nice to hear a heartwarming story! |

My dad got to come home today! Surprised us a bit! I wasn't there but I guess the biggest concern was making sure all the dogs did not jump on him. I actually loaned them one of my play yards to fence in my dad. That way he can get one settled down with him at a time. Don't want to rip open those stitches! Mom said they were really excited! I still can't believe what they can do to a person and then have them up and around so fast! Surgery has come a long way. I know he will continue his recovery faster now that he has his pups with him. |
