Female marking territory? We have a 14wk female yorkie. I've noticed over the last week or so, she's started to rub against things as she walks by. Sometimes she'll turn around and do it several times. Is this some kind of territorial behavior? Is there any way we can train her to stop doing that? We had a male Yorkie a while back, and we thought we had taught him not to rub against the furniture like that by distracting him, but it turned out he only learned not to do it while he thought we weren't watching. |
Hi, I have two female Yorkies (1 year and a half each) they used to mark everything in our house. Now that their scent is everywhere in the house they just do it on my bed when I change the sheets and on me when I come home and I have any scent of another dog. When we go for a walk they pee (a few drops) to mark our street. It's normal pack behavior I think and I never tried to stop it. Maria |
I have a male and a female and I don't think I've seen them mark anything in the house but when we walk they will each pee a few drops here and there to mark. It's kind of funny because Maggie will always pee after Buster, same spot. She hikes her leg, he doesn't. |
Rio (my girl) rubs her body on the wall in my house occasionally but it doesn't bother me. She's NEVER marked with urine in the house, although sometimes she'll mark outside with little pee drops. Bullet (my boy) does neither - he doesn't rub his body against the wall and he doesn't mark with pee inside or outside. Not sure what rubbing the body on walls means. Maybe it just feels good! |
OK, we probably won't do anything about it. I don't know if anyone coming into the house would notice a puppy smell, but we sure don't (we keep her as clean as a puppy can be). Just wondered if that was something to be concerned about. :) Thanks everyone! |
Is she rubbing her side or her butt? I think she's probably just scratching herself. If she's rubbing the anal area, she may need her glands expressed. |
We check her glands at least weekly with every bath. It's her head and side. If I come in the house with a bag she doesn't recognize, she rolls around on top of it as well. She's really my parents' puppy, and I don't live with them. So, each day she sees me for the first time, she also rubs against my legs and rolls on my feet. It's not a "I'm the leader of the pack," thing either because she approaches me with her ears down and her belly practically on the ground before she does that. She just really wants everything and everyone to smell like her. She's fairly certain we all stink :animal36 |
