How To Make a Harness? Is there anyone here, who could give me a few tips on what I can use so that I can sew up some harnesses for my Riley? Where can I purchase the D rings? And the buckles? What, besides ribbon, would be appropriate material? I've seen the silk ones that Chatties' makes, and I want so much to create for my Riley. I'd just rather not begin experimenting and working it out by trial and error. Money is so tight these days, I don't want to waste. :aimeeyork |
I'd love to know that myself....lol I have lotsa coats and hoodies for Lucky but it seems that all the cutest clothes that he has are for collars.....the D ring is partially down his back so I end up putting the harness over his clothes....and it just doesn't look as good that way! lol I could cut a hole in his clothes for the ring clip but still not as nice! I do have a sewing machine and I would love some ideas on harness making tips!! Thanks....lol |
How To Make A Small Dog Harness With Grosgrain Ribbon Have a look at this site. I haven't tried it myself because I don't yet have the dog to fit the harness to. (Only 50 hours, 10 minutes to go!) When you open the page, you may get an obnoxiously loud ad at the bottom but it goes away after 10-15 seconds. |
do you think a small dog could slip out of that? I can't see the front of the harness in the pic so its kinda hard to tell... has anyone tried this? Thanks! |
You can find "D" rings at JoAnn's or maybe even Walmart if they still have a fabric/crafts dept. |

I did that last year, and it's a pain.Every time Riley had to go out potty, had to do it all up. On his coat this yr, I'll just sew a D ring on the back between the shoulders.:aimeeyork |
I've made some leashes to match harness vests/dresses and some collars (for tags only) and for the buckles and snaps I went to dollar tree and bought leashes and collars there and just cut the buckles and snaps off. It's cheaper doing it that way plus my Joann's doesn't always have the really small 1/2"-3/4" buckles for collars and it's impossible to find the snaps for leashes. And since dollar tree's leashes/collars are usually really ugly I don't feel guilty about wasting the ugly part just to get the hardware. |
That is such a great idea! We don't have a Dollar Tree here by me, but there is one 20 miles away, so I'll just try to remember that the next time I have to go there. Awesome, thanks!:aimeeyork |
