They Learn the Darndest Things! I have two IGs who dig in the grass and appear to eat dirt. I used to tell myself they were eating worms, but I have to fess up, it's dirt. Lizzy is three, but I've only had her for two years and five months. In all this time, I have NEVER seen my little cutie pie, my little baby who pees and poops on the patio rather than the grass, who can't walk with a leaf stuck in her fur or poop stuck on her butt eat dirt until today. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! I was cleaning up the yard and turned around to see Liz with her nose in one of their little holes, eating dirt. I blame the IGs. In fact, I think they put her up to it. There must be some kind of Murphy's law around my house that when a dog learns something from one of the other dogs, it isn't a good thing. |
IG's? I can just picture your delicate little baby being led astray. Next thing you know she'll be smoking and getting a tattoo on her rump. |

It must be them because our precious lil yorkies don't eat dirt without having the bad influence of another dog :p |
Jackson has eaten some nasty things, but never dirt.... until a few days ago! After the rain, there was a huge pile of mud/dirt, and Jackson just took a big chomp out of it and started chewing happily... I was pretty disgusted, hahaha. |
LOL...that is halarious! I hope my two never do that but who knows....I wouldn't put them past it! |
It went from my house to your house!:D The first year I had Kacee, she dug little holes all over her fenced-in yard! It looked like I had a mole or something. I didn't think I'd ever get them repaired, but I did and thankfully she stopped her hole digging!:D |
Poppy will copy any other dog she meets, no matter what they are doing! She is like their shadow. :D |

They don't get much time out alone in the yard as I am afraid to leave them out there without supervision. Liz can't be left out, I've seen hawks around my house. But they still try to get to those holes. I ran Liz off yesterday and asked her what she thought she was doing. Hopefully, she won't do it again. It may not be a terrier trait, but I don't think she is as hard headed as the two IG offenders are. |
Tallulah's breeder told me a horror story about one of her pups being snatched out of the new owner's yard by a hawk. My yard is a haven to sparrows, blue jays, and hummingbirds. I will be keeping an eye on ALL of them. |

I think I would prefer my lil one eating dirt over eating flys, spiders, crawling bugs...uggggggg :eek::eek: |
Hmmm....I wonder if there is some mineral that the dogs are missing in their diets, causing them to "crave" dirt? |
