Military question I had a question I know that a few of you out there in cyber space are military members, or spouses so am I; so my question is what does your spouse do as a career. My husband is in the airforce and we have moved 4 times this year, with all the moves it is quite hard to find a job. We will now be where we are stationed for 11 months but it is out in the middle of nowhere in MS. We would love the extra cash here and there but I can not come with anything clever to do...i don't sew, or have a product so any suggestions? |
hi,i do know alittle about moving around a lot. my hubby is an air force reservist at little rock afb and his regular job is as a hospital administrator. we have moved 3 times in 3 yearswith company transfers. currently building ahouse with afenced in backyard for the puppies.i know of one lady who took a dog grooming course and has avery successful business. she says its easier to work alone because she can be more focused.good luck with everything. cathy and yoshi and zelda |
My husband is in the air force also! We haven't had to move yet **knock on wood!** He has been stationed at McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas for 3 years now. I used to work as a waitress, but now I'm a stay-at-home mom & love it! I am trying the whole e-bay thing though. I am trying to sell children's clothes. I go to consignment stores or garage sales and then sell it on ebay for hopefully more than I paid! I'm not making a whole lot right now, but I just started so hopefully it will pick up! :) |
Both are good ideas I was thinking about inhome daycare since i live on base but there are so many rules and regs. The one that bothers me the most is that i have to keep lexi locked up the whole time the children are here, which seems cruel to me. Also, the money is garanteed and i have to spend alot of money b4 i even start with insurance and supplies. Thank you for the advice greatly needed and appriciated |
Hello. I am an Army wife, have been for 7.5 yrs. Currently my hubby is a drill sgt here at Benning. This is our 3rd move in the 7.5yrs, and as of Dec we will have 1 more yr left here and on to the next place. I do not work as we have 1 child(we have 2 daughters, oldest is 1st grade) who is not in school, she will be next Aug. So I have never worked, but am hoping to go to school in Jan..online that is and then do acutally classes on campus come Aug. I dont sew either, tho I do have a machine...I am trying but get frustrated easily. So I dont have much advice or suggestions but just wanted you to know you are not alone. Where in MS are y'all? My mom lives in Mobile, AL. |
air force wife in MS too! hi, I just wanted to let you know I am an AF wife in MS as well, My husband is in the Guard & right now he is in Ramstein, Germany until the end of January. I know how you feel not having anything to do. So far I have decided to be a substitute teacher where we live. It's great b/c you can work when you want to ! Good luck with finding something to keep you busy! :D By the way, where in MS are you stationed? |
I just wanted to say thank you to all of your husbands or wives or daughters or sons that are serving our country. And many thanks to all of the families at home. God bless you all! |
J-o-b- Hi Laura... I'm an Army spouse of 26 years....and moved tons and tons. I have worked off and on throughout the 26 years.... Many of my friends do substitute teaching~ I have worked in the elementary school systems twice as a teachers aide..the hours are right...both times in kindergarten. When I first was married and we lived in Germany...I worked in the Day Care and loved all the children. Then the years my kids were growing up more..I didn't work. You could work at a local store. One thing that my friends are doing and have encouraged me to do is buy a booth at the Cotton Exchange. They antique and yard sale...buy things..fix them ...place in their little booths and sell them. I've been to yard sales with them some..its fun...but everything comes home to my house...LOL There is also a new Military program that many wives are applying to work at the post that their husbands are. Its called FRG assistant for Family Readiness Groups. Every Brigade has an FRG~ I work in ours as an advisor..and its a volunteer position...but there is a paid FRG assistant in most units to help with paperwork and rosters...etc... Good Luck to you... |
I'm a military wife. I met my husband when he was on active duty in the Air Force, stationed in Germany. He is serving in the Air National Guard right now (his base is 2,5 hours away). He's been on and off of active duty the last two years. Because of that I never see him (I am guessing I have seen him about 2 years out of the 5 years we've been married), our health insurance is a mess, but I'm proud of him for what he does! Every time I see those F-16's fly over, I realize why he is doing it! |
I am a Marine wife stationed at Cherry Point, NC. We have been married for 5 years and all five of those years I have been a stay at home mom. It can really get tough just staying home, but I want to give my son the same time that I gave my daughter. Good luck to all of you! Semper Fi |
military Well I was active duty navy 4.5 years in San Diego and just got out on OCT 19th. Now I'm a reservist. My husband is still active in the navy. We move to Chicago next April. I'm going to college online (currently 4 classes away from my AA) and raising my 3 year old son until then. I'm possbily thinking of picking up a part time job around the holidays. But I would like to stay home because of my son and my dogs. For money I get about 2,000 from MGIB and IVG, and I'm planning on starting ebay. I hope that everything works out because I don't want my yorkie to have seperation anxeity, I try to take her whereever I go. |
