Scratching at the door STILL driving me nuts! I may have posted about this before, but it's still going on and it's not getting any better. We have a regular potty schedule for taking Roxie out. In between, she scratches at the front door when she has to go out (We think her previous owner must have taught her that). Except now, she just scratches at the door ALL THE TIME...even if we've just taken her out to potty a few minutes before. She especially loves to scratch when we sit down on the couch to watch TV, or sit at the table to eat. We wind up taking her out just to be safe, and more often than not she will lay in the grass or just sniff around. She doesn't actually potty. What is going on here? Is she bored? She can't possibly have to go potty all these times, can she? How can I get her to stop scratching at the door? We've tried distracting her, offering toys and play, putting a gate in front of the door, and NO STAY spray...no luck so far. |
Aww sorry you are having this problem. My piper did that to me just last night. I gave her a treat the first time she pottied outside. We all snuggled on the couch and she started her "i gotta go out" potty dance and kicking up her back legs like a bull ready to charge. So we go outside. She has a potty pad on the patio because she is somewhat allergic to the "outside" ..and she pees about the spot of a quarter. When we come in she runs straight to the treat jar!!! I said..no treat!!! and sat down. She sure was pouty faced. Seems like you kid probably just loves being outside!! They are just like kids:D |
Do you take her for walks? She may be like mine. Kacee loves to be outside, especially, when the weather is nice like it has been lately and not too hot. She enjoys long, leisurely walks. We try to spend as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors. It won't be long until it's too cold to enjoy it. |

Do you have a fenced in yard? If so, you may want to consider a "doggie door". I have one so the dogs can come and go as they please into the yard. They like to play outside in the yard. Beamer often just goes and sits by the fence so he can see who is walking down the street - and alert us when someone does:D |
I don't understand how this is a problem. Sound like she likes to be out in the yard. My yard is secure and my three will lay around in the sun napping. Maybe that is all she wants  |
I forgot to tell you that my girl loves to lay either out on the patio in the sun or in the grass when the sun is shining. She also loves to go outside and make her "rounds" down the fence to be sure there have been no "trespassers".:D |
I live in a townhouse development...so no yard, or fenced in area for her to be free in. :( We take her on several rounds about the development throughout the day, so she is getting exercise and time outside. |
