confused over weight of parents-pls help!!!!
 
I am new to this forum, so please forgive me if this subject was discussed before. This past Saturday, I visited a breeder and her yorkie had a litter of six(6) puppies-three females and three males. The litter was born on October 25, 2005 they were all beautiful and I picked a beautiful female. I will be picking her up sometime in January of 2006. My question is this: The female yorkie was 5.5 lbs and the male was 3.5 lbs, will this give me any indication of how many pounds my yorkie will be? The breeder said the litter would be small, but after reading these threads I am unsure. Can anybody tell me what to expect? At this point it doesn't matter, I will love her no matter what, but I guess I just want to know. Many thanks.

Well, you read other threads, so you know you can't get an exact weight, but I would say the pup will probably be on the smaller size like her parents. Bet you can't wait to get her!!!!!! Welcome to YT and I hope you stick around. It is full of a wealth of information that will be very helpful for when you get your new baby! :)

most likely you are looking at a possible 5 lb baby at maturity. this is hard for me to say though without knowing the weights of grand parents and great grand parents. ask the breeder if she knows the weights of those ancestors. it may give you a better guestimate. congrats on getting a new baby! we will be waiting to see pics!

thanks very much for the information, like I said before, it really doesn't matter. This weekend I will see my precious baby again and take pictures and post them. She is so...tiny...and beautiful.

Welcome to YT!!! I just love hearing about new babies!!!! Can you bring a disposable camera to the Breeder to take pictures every few days for you? That's my new recommendation for new babies because everyone always posts how much they miss them after picking them out.
I bet your excited! I know I would be! :D

Yes, I promise to bring my digital camera to take pictures. I have to tell you last Saturday I took pictures but they were very dark and you couldn't make out anything. I am hoping this weekend I will go to a lighted room and take better pictures. Thanks for the warm welcome, I really appreciate it.

weights are so hard to guess, so much can creep up from the grand parents or the great grand parents on both the dam/sire side.

I have a litter right now Hattie is 5.5lbs bred to Benz 3.10lbs at almost 12 weeks the kids are 32-36 oz with one exception that looked nothing like his brothers and sister (but did as a baby) "aggie" left this monday for his forever home :( weighing in a whopping 54 oz. I know Hatties pedigree well but this was a first breeding to Benz (benz mom "ashlee" is 5.75lbs and his daddy was 3.5lbs and Benz sister under 3lbs) Who would have ever figured a possible 7lbs or larger little boy out of this breeding only time told the story. As he developed I began to notice his differences at about 5 weeks, his weight gain sped way beyond the others.

the end to this story in as much as breeders would like to be right something crops in and throws us for a loop, this gal waited almost 6-7 months for a Benz baby. Becca ultimately didnt mind "Aggies" size but I am sure deep down she was disappointed that at 11 weeks he was almost the weight of his daddy, she loves him no matter his size.

hi! i'm right there w/ you, petite43 (as i'm hopin to pick up my 8 week old this next weekend) and i'm sure we have so much of the same questions (I was wondering the same thing about the weight, too ;)

its so crazy how genes work. my sister is tiny, i'm tall and skinny, and my younger brother is like the incredible hulk.

Wow, I can't believe that story from Kimberly's post, I guess it is really a long shot on guessing the weight of these yorkies. I have to post that this weekend, I went to see my little one and she was the "biggest of the group", of course my camera wasn't working because of the DEAD BATTERIES, but there is always next week to take those incredible pictures. I spoke with the breeder again, and right now she still has one female and two males left. I don't know if anyone is looking in the N.Y. area, but if interested, leave me a message and I will give you all the info. Again, many thanks for all the feedback, you guys are great, I am really addicted to this site!!!!

Well, Gracie is the product of a 5 lb Mom and a 3 lb Dad and she's a year old today and weighs exactly 4 lbs!

On a side note, I read somewhere just recently that a good rule of thumb is to take the puppy's 16 week weight, double it and add half a pound to get their estimated adult weight. Using that calculation, Gracie is a 1/2 pound under her potential adult weight right now. So I'm curious to see how much bigger (if any) she gets.

its at 8 weeks triple the weight and 12 weeks double the weight...
