Ben & Candy back from the Vet
 

It was a huge day for Ben and Candy (mostly Ben). Both got dentals, Candy, my Jack Russell got some xrays due to an occasional limp that comes and goes, and Ben was neutered.

Candy came through with flying colors. She had only a little tartar built up and needed no extractions. No broken or cracked bones. Looks like her limp may be caused by a disk problem in her neck. So nothing really to do right now except continue Rimadal (anti-inflammatory). She is eating well, jumping around fine and the limp was actually gone before the xray.

But poor Ben......he had to have several extractions and seems to be hurting. He makes a pitiful little noise when I pick him up and nuzzles like a baby. He won't eat, or even drink any water. I am watching him close -- worry about hypoglycemia as he has had that before. Have never seen him go this long without eating. Think I will give a little Nutrical if he will let me.

No one here could believe I neutered Ben. He is such a great little sire. But since I bought a tiny female and she may well come in heat before she is big enough for me to feel comfortable spaying her, I figured it best to be safe well in advance! Now there will be no danger. Also covers Ben against testicular cancer and they said the stats also show better chances for prostrate health. I was sure worried today tho! Hate to have any of these little ones go under anestesia. Now just need to get him feeling better. Anyone else neutering a small male along with teeth extractions recently? Wondering how long til they feel theirself again.

Bandit got neutered and had teeth extractions about 2 years ago and was horrendously out of it until the next morning. Within a day or two he was back to himself. Nala on the other hand was back to herself that night! I think a lot of it has to do with the vet. We switched vets after Bandit got neutered and our new vet is amazing.

My little guy Alfie, who is a Maltese mix, got neutered about a year ago and he also had some teeth extractions. He's usually so hyper and playful but when I went to pick him up after his surgery, he was in so much pain. He looked at me and I could tell he was asking me, "whyyy??" lol. I was afraid to hold him at first because anytime I tried to move him, he whimpered in pain. This lasted for about three days-four days. He slowly recovered and after a week he was fully back to his old self.

Awww, poor babies! I didn't realize anything was wrong with Candy. Did she have an accident?

Murphy and Maddox both had 10-12 baby teeth pulled when they were neutered. They were pretty much back to normal within 24 hours.

I hope Ben and Candy both feel better soon. Sending them gentle huggins from my crew.

No, but periodically when she has really gotten a lot of exercise (usually when the grand kids are out at the pool -- she runs back and forth wanting to get splashed, loves the water), she limps. It was always the same left front paw in the air. It would usually be fine within a day or two. This last time it went to the third day and the vet finally got to see her doing it. (I think they thought I was crazy as I had brought her in twice before and she wasn't limping by the time we came in and nothing on her leg or paw is sore to the touch.) He suggested the xrays since I was getting her teeth cleaned anyway. It was minimal narrowing, much the same as people get as they age. She is only 6 years old and has no arthritis evidence, so he thought maybe she had injured a disk at one time by jumping. She is a jumper! (Typical Jack Russell!) She is so healthy tho! This won't be a problem, not bad enough for surgery or anythin. Now I have Rimadal and he made note in her record that I can call for refills any time she does limp.

Ben is doing better. He is finally up and around. He just did not want to move last night. Did not eat or drink. I gave him a little Nutrical just to be safe. Today, he is still turning away from all food except I baked some chicken breast and he finally made an exception. Do I have a spoiled baby or what? :) He deserves some home cooked chicken after his ordeal tho.

Hope he doesn't hold this against Annie. I can hear him thinking...."first she brings home this little ball of fur that won't leave me alone, and then I have to go get neutered -- all because she is so little????? Grrrrrr....." Poor thing!

Thank you both! That helped to know that it is not abnormal for our little ones to be so dispondent on coming home for this. Since he is getting up on his own now and going out to pee, eating a little chicken, I am feeling a lot better about him.
