Guilty mom! Here is the story: Melanie is 16 months old, until she was about 10 months old she was not allowed on furniture, then she started jumping on the couch and likes to sleep in my dining chairs, since she is too cute to be reprimanded she got away with that. During her first year she would sleep in her crate, then she started leaving her crate during the night and would sleep in a comfy chair I have by my bed, when we were sleeping she would jump on the bed, we would take her down and she would jump up again, DH went away to work overseas from May until 2 weeks ago, and during this time I allowed her in bed with me. For some stupid reason I put the crate away and of course my bed became her bed. Now DH is back and for sanitary reasons don't wanna her sleeping with us (he loves her deeply, is just his preference), I thought I would easily put her on her chair and that she would stay, she stays until we fall asleep then moves to the bed (funny thing is that she likes to sleep by DH's legs LOL). I actually think that if we had only her, we would just leave it alone and let her sleep with us. Now we are getting a new puppy and I can't have two yorkies in bed with us. I I feel I can't let one and not the other. So last night I decided to put the crate out again for her to get used to it, so I put her pillow, blanket and water, she went in on her own and was hanging out in there. Once I shut the lights off the crying started. BAD SAD HEART BREAKING CRYING. (was a little funny too because it was so dramatic LOL). I ignored, she would stop a little bit and start again, I could not sleep because she was crying and because I felt guilty since is all my fault. I don't wanna her to be unhappy, feel neglected or traumatized. Did anyone here had done that? Like went off the crate, then went back to it? She used to love her crate... now this. This morning her blanket was on top of the water bowl, that's how mad she was. But after breakfast she wet back to the crate and stayed in therte until before I left the house and the door was open... Any ideas? Thank you! |
Ah! She'll probably be alright before long. I thought there was always room for one more in bed though.:D |
But the new puppy will be on potty training for at least 1 year right? Also I wanted Melanie to sleep with Natalie when Natalie comes home, so that she won't miss her fursibilings and her furmom. Do you guys that allow your babies in bed wipe them everyday? My dog you housebroken, she doesn't do anything on the pee pads. I spent 2 weeks in Germany last winter and every potty break was a nightmare after a while she would pee on the pee pad I think because was not as cold as snow, I don't know how to pee pad train (neither really want her to use a peed pad as a routine), so she is out all the time, she also goes a lot to dog's park and runs with me, so she is not super clean all the time.... that's why DH does not want her in bed with us... I may be doing it all wrong so any comment will help! |
I bath Tinkerbell every Sunday and more often if needed because I let her sleep with me and she is allowed on the furniture. I am sure your dog will be alright once she has the puppy to cuddle with. |
I noticed you said that you put her pillow in her cage, earlier this week someone posted that their little one had chewed their pillow during the night & when she woke up the poor baby had died. If I am wrong on this, please someone correct me. It might be helpful if someone remembered the thread so she can read it but I don't know which one it is at the moment. I don't want you to have a tragedy on your hands if it can be prevented. |
She should be alright after some time. Keno has always slept with us, so when we got a new edition valentine we still let keno sleep with us, but she sleeps in her play pen, that way keno can still feel like hes number 1. She did cry the first few nights but not she is fine and falls right to sleep. right before bed i play with them and tire both of them out so they both can sleep through the night. |
You are right, I read that. But I don't think Melanie would rip off the pillow, and she needs it to snugle she is big in snnugling, also her crate is 2 feet away for my bed and I have very light sleep, I actually wake up if she gets up or play with her toys. (I'm not really into sleeping so I don't care). The new puppy will be away from pillows until I get to know her better and can trust she will not rip it apart. Also if you think about it, this pillow risk is everywhere, since a dog could do that with your decorative pillows in the living room when you are not home, right? |
I have no advice, everyone in our family pretty much allows their dogs on the bed ranging from pit bulls to yorkies! Jackson has slept in my bed since 16 weeks old. :) But I think if you stick to it, they will get used to it. |
Me too! Quote:
Sometimes I do bath her on Wednesdays, and always try to take her to messy places i.e. dog's park if I can bath her once we get home... So, you guys all allow your lil ones in bed... do they go out? DH thinks we can get a disease or something LOL I don't think it makes sense since the couch is allowed... Oh, well, let's see if she freaks out again I may just give up and let her sleep wherever she wants to... |
I understand your point... Quote:
I will make sure that Melanie doesn't feel jealous and will give her food bowl first, play with her first, that type of thing... I wouldn't feel comfortable allowing Melanie on the bed and not Natalie. And that's just the way I see and feel, I'm not saying you are wrong or anything. We need to do what work best for us :) |
Lila sleeps in my bed, in fact she allows me to share her pillow. I bathe her once a week but I also wipe her paws/underbelly/private areas whenever we come in from outside (usually 2x daily). |
Beamer always sleeps curled up next to my side.:) |
