Looking for a quality yorkie!!! I live in Ohio Hello! My name is Leigh and I am new to the forum. I am looking for a show quality but maybe slightly smaller as a pet for my home. I have been doing a lot of research and want to buy from a reputable breeder. I would like the silky coat blue tan. Any helpmwould be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Leigh |
You might ask around your area to locate show breeders. You could also look at the YTCA site. |
I would call your local vets as well! I'm from Ohio, but my breeder just had her stud fixed....so no more puppies....:( Good LUck on finding your perfect doggie! :D:D |
there are several YTCA breeders in Ohio: Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club Also check out the Yorkies for Sale section. be sure you read this post first: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ead-first.html Show quality Yorkies are expensive and one cannot tell if a puppy is going to be show quality or not until they are several months old. Lots of beautiful pet quality puppies to be found and if you are not showing then a pet quality puppy should be fine. When you see a puppy you are interested in check out the breeder thoroughly before committing yourself. Also be careful of PM's you may get from breeders looking to sell their puppies. Not all YT members who breed are reputable breeders. Some read posts looking for prospective buyers and will PM them rather than posting openly on the forum. Good luck and I hope you find your perfect furbaby soon:) |

my mom lives in Ashley that is a great part of the state its like culture shock compared to my city. |
I know you said you're looking for a possibly smaller dog. Make sure you stay away from ANYONE who advertises with the word "teacup." |
okay, i have been looking for a good breeder for a while now I live in canton well north canton but same thing. i have not found a single breeder that i would buy a puppy from even the ones from YTCA i emailed all of them and not one of them could be civil and most would not return my messages because i did not want to buy a puppy from there currant litters. I would look into breeders in a neighboring state if i wear you. |

My advice.... finding a great breeder is not a sprint, but a marathon. And, the breeder is with you the rest of your pup's life for advice and support. |
Good Luck! It takes time to find the right puppy. If you are willing to drive a little way feel free to contact me. |

Another good opportunity is if your city/town, has a meet the breed weekend and or day, and you can go and talk to various breeders of YT's. As another poster suggested, show quality can not be determined to any degree of certainly until about 6mths, at the most when they are young you have a show prospect. If you are not interested in showing the dog, I'd make that clear to any prospective breeder. If what you really are asking for is a beautiful example of the breed that is healthy, typey, with proper coat and color, then make that clear. Also in terms of size, at best there are only guesstimates of what the adult Yorkie will weigh. Nobody can guarantee a specific weight when a pup is only 12 wks old. One of the good things about meeting the breeders in person is you get to see and meet their dogs, and have a chance to assess the temperament of sire and or dam. Finally you might want to consider rescues, that may have older pups or young adults ready for a good loving home. Best of luck with your search and Welcome |
