It's easy to forget sometimes with so many things going on. I have a huge Irish Setter names Rusty that goes out with the Yorkies when it's potty time. One day in the late fall I forgot him and his pals outside for a while and he simply jumped at the front door and let himself in along with a few chilly Yorkies! Do you think that I learned a lesson? Not the first time. One very cold winter in the early evening I put him out alone and after getting a telephone call went upstairs to the office and forgot all about Rusty. Of course 1/2 an hour later he let himself in. The only problem is that he does not know how to shut the door! My furnace ran full blast for a few hours until I realised that Rusty could still be outside. By the time I got back downstairs he was comfortably sleeping on the sofa. The heat from the house was going outside all of this time and therefore, I must admit, I added to global warming that year. Now no one is left outside for very long in inclement weather. We even check when we know no one is supposed to be outside. It part our nightly ritual now. Lesson well learned at last. |
