weird habit, is this bad for my pup? So Harley has this strange habit... and I can't really get him to stop. He LOVES to lick my legs and feet. Which ok if my feet are clean I don't really care. But as soon as I get out of the shower, if I put lotion on my legs he "attacks" me with kisses, and also I'm a big sandal wearer, despite the fact that it's getting cold out, and well he really likes to lick my feet when I'm at my desk doing homework... Is it going to hurt him? I'm more concerned about the lotion than any dirt or whatever... Thoughts and how do I break him of it? |
I would suggest, if he is doing that, put your legs up on something, so he cant reach them...usually it is best to ignore bad behavior....good luck..... |
yeah that's what I've been working on trying. but he licks and walks... silly pup. So if I'm walking it's like his tongue is attached to my leg, lol. When at my desk I try to sit with my feet up, will keep trying, hope this goes away as he gets older, I'm sure it will ... |
You might spray something harmless but distasteful, like bitter apple, on your legs and feet until he realizes that they taste bad. |
My Ben, seems to love to lick fresh lotioned legs too. I usually gently shoo him away because I don't think the lotion is that good for him and I don't really like him licking my leg. But I doubt it would really hurt them. The lotions are meant to smell good so it is no wonder they are attracted to it. Licking your toes won't hurt them either, but again, it is not something I like them to do so I gently shoo them away from that too. I have one that likes to lick my chaise which is a microfiber. She licks it until she has a wet spot and sometimes that leaves a mark. I would really like to get her out of that habit too. I don't know anything but consistently moving her from the act and giving a stern "no" when I catch her. I have used the bitter apple on some things, but not fabric. |
I have a licker too (he literally licks everything from my hands to my bedsheets), and the lotion licking drives me nuts. Because I am scared of what licking so much lotion could do, I usually will just throw on pajama pants or sweatpants after my shower and I don't actually get dressed until the lotion has really absorbed or I am getting ready to walk out the door. |
Ok glad I'm not the only one who's baby does this... I thought of the bitter apple, but the little bug LOVES that stuff. I tried using it on his grid, cause he chews on the clamps that hold the mats and papers down. I've pretty much given up trying to stop him from chewing that stuff, I just give him lots of chew toys and make sure everything in his room is safe to be chewed on (ie, wont break off and choke him). but yeah, right now I'm at my desk and I have pants and huge fluffy slippers on so that he can't get to any skin. lol |
Dolly LOVES lotion too! I have to close the door if I want any left on my legs after the shower, or put the baby gate up in whatever room I'm in. She sits on the other side of the gate and watches me like a hawk. Fortunately she's not a barker or whiner, she just wags her tail super fast |

UGHH Hazel does this when i get out of the shower too! and after i put on my lotion. either way shes licking a nibbling toes all day long no matter what! |
What's wrong with licking feet?I lick my girlfriends feet. |
[QUOTE=kdhawks;3280923]I have a licker too (he literally licks everything from my hands to my bedsheets), and the lotion licking drives me nuts. ./QUOTE] Cody does the same thing. When he's playful (like first thing in the morning), he wants to bite (playful not hard bites). If I say "no bite" he starts licking. And yes, he licks the sheets too, what gives? |

awe, seems to me, that he just loves you too much to let you go! hmm...maybe you can spray something yucky on your legs! good luck!!!!! |
Hehe... as soon as I walked in his room today, he attacked my feet again. oh it's a good thing puppy kisses are cute. |
Khloe is guilty also. (: It drives me nuts because I use the Skin So Soft oil, and when she does it, she looks greasy long before she is due to a bath. I was wondering if this is typical behavior, and I\'m glad it was conformed. |
my Harley does the same, cant stop him |
