Taking Tinkerbell hiking We are taking Tinkerbell with us next month on vacation to Shenandoah :). We will be doing a lot of hiking and I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good way to carry her when the trail gets rough. I have seen backpacks for dogs , but I am unsure of what actually works well. I think I would like something that has her in front and not on my back so I can see her. Thanks for any tips. |
I had this backpack from Outward Hound that can strap on your back or front and worked out great. The bottom is really stiff so they can sit on it but it can fold down nicely and you can put it in your backpack if you carry one when you hike. There's a little clip to attach her harness to also:) Have fun! |

My Dante (6 months old, 5 pounds) routinely walks 4 miles every morning with me. Why do you need to carry your Yorkie? Okay, if you're going 20 miles in a day... maybe carry him for half? |

I tell you, my Lucy could not walk for four miles. My Westie, yes, absolutely, and then some. I'm trying to think of a solution, too; so that Lucy can go with us and not get left out. I'm not ready for a stroller (my son would kill me) but perhaps a carrier of some kind when she gets tired. |
I think you'll be happily surprised about Tinkerbell's ability in the bush. We took Darwin hiking on a very rough area when he was just under a year. I kept him on his leash but he was like a little maniac pulling and smelling everything he could. I tried to carry him at one point and he wanted down so badly. Have fun on your hikes! |
I have a backpack carrier, not sure who made it but I bought it off amazon. It works out great when Rizzo gets tired out, which happens where there is lots of steep climbing to do. I barely had to carry him on my latest hike but it was more level, but towards the end he kept bumping into my leg and looking up at me with his beg face on, so I put him in his bag and he was a happy camper after that. Take plenty of water and some kibble and have a great time. Its so much fun watching these guys running around sniffing and playing with everything :D |

that's a good question! Lotte is our outdoorsey girl, but we've never come upon a trail too rough yet for her. I'll have to look into this too! I will say she is ALWAYS on a good quality harness that covers her entire chest for support so that if something were to happen and I needed to pick her up quickly I could. Don't forget the dog friendly bug spray! :) |

I think you are wise in preparing yourself for the hike. There are days that Pasquale will go go go..and then there are days where he will just sit there and look at me like "if you think i'm walking another step..you got to be kidding yourself" :rolleyes: I am looking into carriers like this too! |
