does your yorkie cough or hack a lot w/ the weather change?? It seems like since it has gotten colder my baby is hacking a lot...he has always done this when he gets really excited, but not that often. I have noticed this past week he has been hacking more...does anyone have a furbaby that does this too? Is there anything you do that helps? |
Pippa came down with a doggie cold late last week. She started coughing and sneezing. It did seem to coincide with the weather changing here as well. I took her to the vet on Saturday who said she had a viral cold. He told me to give her Robitussin at night for the cough. She's better, but just coughing some at night. So far, Scout hasn't caught it. I do notice that Pippa is more sensitive to ANYTHING than Scout is, such as cleaning supplies and such. (Febreeze can't be used at our house any more-talk about coughing fits!!) I do think weather does trigger sensitive dogs...and people! Oh, and to add what to do about it. If it's just an occasional cough, I don't do anything. She stops on her own. The Robitussin for the coughing she had at night: vet told me to give her 1ml...but I would check with your vet before administering any medicine. :-) |
ok thanks Tiffany! |

I don't think any of mine are suffering from a cold at this time, but this is certainly good weather for that too! If it seems to be really bothersome, maybe take your baby to the vet and have him looked at just to be sure. |
I noticed mine doing it lately too but he doesnt do it all the time. If it were happening all the time I would take him to the vet to be on the safe side. |
I notice two of my yorkies hacking a bit... I think it's allergies (due to weather change).... I give them a children's antihistamine (cherry flavor)... I had a runny nose all weekend... I've been taking allergy medicine.... seems to have made it worse... now I just have sinus pressure in my head (I was better off with the runny nose... at least my head didn't hurt).... |
I am going to take Bruiser to the vet today at 4:15, my mom is babysitting him today because he has not been feeling well and she said he has been hacking all morning...not just when he is excited...so I am going to take him...my poor little angel! |
Muffin used to get tonsillitis. It was usually, or should I say especially, when the seasons changed. She would start coughing and had trouble stopping, so the vet told me to give her the liquid cherry-flavored benedryl and so I always kept it and even though it didn't happen often, I was always ready for it. Sometimes one dose wouldn't do it and I'd have to go back later and give her another dose. It always got rid of it and she could sleep then and so could I. :D |
I hope Bruiser feels better soon. Let us know what the vet said. :getwellso |
Bruiser saw the vet yesterday and turns out he has a nasty cold. The vet said it has been going around and Bruiser probably got it from another dog at the groomers when he was there last week... He gave Bruiser a shot and some pills and he is already starting to feel better and cough less. Thanks for all your posts!!!!! |
ya...why is that? yes my pup does it alot...he had kennel cough when we frist got him but he was cleard of that on Monday. However he is still sneezing and and hacking quite a bit. And it gets worse at night. Does anyone notice that? |
I was so glad to see this post as my pup has been coughing and I was starting to panic. She is only 16 weeks old and our weather has been changing very dramatically. One week is was freezing and this past week it was back in the 70's. She isn't coughing much at all......just every now and then. Do you all recommend that I do something or should I see if it just goes away???? |
