Yorkie Hair Hi everybody Zach is 5 months old and his hair always looks so unkept. I brush him every day and I've been using a conditioner on him. His hair always looks messy no matter what I do. I can't take him to a groomer yet because he has to get his last vaccination on Saturday. I've seen hundreds of yorkie photos and their hair always looks so smooth and straight. Am I doing somethng wrong or will his hair calm down as he gets older. I feed him Health Extension dog food which is supposed to be good. |
After I do a home bath, I aways spray a stay in conditioner and use my blow dryer to dryer her, and comb down while I dry her. When I wash her. I dont lather to much and I always press down on the coat during the rinse and the dry out. That works for Beya |
I also spray a stay in conditioner and I brush their fur, but both Zoe and Zach hate the blow dryer. I tried it once and it was impossible. |
I think it's because it's still puppy hair. My 4 month old, Max looks like a complete mess. I brush him all day long. However, he had some medical issues about a month ago where they had to shave his neck and part of his back. That hair is growing in silver and silky - completely different from his thick black puppy hair. I bet when Zach gets his hair cut and the regular hair grows in that the hair will start to look better. |
3 Attachment(s) I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Freddy always looks like a mess. I brush him everyday but he only looks "brushed" for like 5 minutes. I really feel like i should take him to the groomer...to pluck his hair out of his ears and trim his hair on the ears. It looks like his ears want to stand up but can't because his hair is too heavy, i just can't do it myself. He also has hair in front of his eyes that is too long and makes me wonder if he can see. I always try to get it to the side, to open his eyes but it doesn't always work. I can see that the hair is growing in a different color already. His hair on his head is different too. I only had him for 3 weeks but he changed so much already :) I am thinking about taking him to the groomer just for those things.....(ears, hair in front of eyes) Attached are some pics. |
Awww... Freddy looks so sweet! I don't think he looks like a mess at all! |
Oh, yeah that looks just like Max's hair! A thick black coat. I actually thought Max was going bald on top when it first starting growing in lighter:rolleyes: I trim Max's ears. They are supposed to help the ears stand up, but we are still working on that. I think you should do it. Make an appointment with a groomer after Saturday. Be careful though. I read a thread recently where the groomer chopped off all the puppy hair and the dog looked completely different. The OP was so unhappy. |
Freddy looks alot like Zach only his coat seems thicker than Zach's. By the way how old is Freddy? |

My Pebbles is the same way she always looks like who did it and ran. A messy girlie  |
I wish I could do Zach by myself but he's like a little wiggle worm. I will be taking him to the groomer as soon as he has had all of his shots, just for a trim. I don't want his hair short for the winter. It gets kind of cold. You must be an almost neighbor of mine. It's rare that I find somebody from New York on YT especially from Long Island. |
