Roxy Gets Spay Surgery Tuesday 3 Attachment(s) Hi Guys! Roxy gets her spay surgery on Tuesday so I am starting to get very nervous. She is a whopping 4.5 pounds and the vet thinks she is ready. I just have a few questions that i hope my fellow yorkie talkers can answer before the big day. The vet asked me if I wanted to have her remaining baby teeth removed while she is under. Has anyone done this before? Also i counted quit a bit (roughly six) of her baby teeth still left OUCH! I dont want her to be in tremendous pain between the spay, pulling teeth, and plus she is getting micro chipped too! Also the vet informed me that they want to keep her over night. Has anyone ever asked to bring your babies home the same day? Thanks ! I also attached some pictures of little Roxy! |
It's probably best to have the teeth come out at the same time as the surgery. The need to come out and the fewer times she has to undergo anesthesia, the better. If they keep her overnight, is there an attendant there? |
They said it depends on the amount of dogs they have over night && what they are there for. |
I just had my female spayed at 3.8 pounds (8 months old) and she did great. She got one baby tooth pulled, but I could not imagine 6!! This was done yesterday, and got to come home early that evening. I wouldn't want my baby spending the night there... especially if there is not an attendant. I feel that it is much safer at home, where they are comfortable :) |

Thanks for the advice. I am going to call them tomorrow and let them know that I will be wanting to take her home! As for the teeth I dont know  |
Faith was spayed at 10 months old and she was 3.2 pounds. Besides the spay, she had 14 baby teeth pulled! I thought her little mouth would be so sore, so I had canned food for her to eat, but the next day, she didn't want the soft food, but wanted her kibble. She ate it as she normally did with no signs of pain. I did pick her up that same day at 3:00 and she was a little fussy and very sleepy the rest of that day, but the next morn she got up and acted as if nothing had happened! I would recommend you get Roxy's baby teeth out at the time of the spay. It is normal practice, so that later they don't have to be put under again. I also think they do better coming home that same day and being in their familiar surroundings with those that love them. I brought all 3 of mine home the same day and all went well. One thing is be sure they send Roxy home with pain meds. I only gave mine the pain meds for a couple of days, but it helped get them through the worst of it. It's truly amazing how fast they bounce back! Best wishes to you and Roxy. I know how scary it is to go through and you will feel so good once that surgery is behind you. I'll say a prayer for her successful surgery and quick recovery! Roxy is adorable! |

I would recommend getting her teeth out at the same time. She may be a little pain but your vet should be able to get you some pain meds. I don't remember how many teeth Maggie had removed but poor Hot Rod had 14! at his neuter at 6 1/2 months. He had double teeth. Both of mine came home the same day. She will be fine mom. :) Good luck. |
Thanks guys for being so reassuring! I just dropped her off my vet insisted on doing pre-op blood work on her right before surgery so if anything is wrong i should be getting a call in an hour. So now its just the waiting game. I get a call at 3:30 and can pick her up as soon as I want after. They told me she would be getting pain meds for the following 3 days and depending on how many teeth she gets pulled maybe a day more. Now I am just cleaning her bed, and getting her cage ready. When your little girls were spayed did you let them sleep with you at night (thats what she usually does) or in the cage. I have only had my little boy neutered and when I got him home it was as if nothing happened and I know girls go through a lot more. THANKS:aimeeyork |
I'm glad you decided to have her baby teeth pulled during her spay. It's really best and easiest for the pup this way. Sending prayers and happy thoughts to you and Roxy today. Bonny |
Roxy is so blessed to have a worrying momma at home just waiting to be able to go get her. These things are so much harder on momma than the baby! Lifting you both up in prayer! |
I wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you and Roxy today! I would suggest you call there in 2 or 3 hours, just to hear that all is well. Then you can relax waiting for 3:30 to get here. Best wishes! |
Same boat - different question Hello all...I'm in the same boat here. My little Bazinga is almost old enough to get neutered and I called today to get a quote from my vet and they quoted me 300-380. Is this normal? That seems extremely high to me. And I'm guessing this doesn't include pulling his baby teeth...which i would want to do as well.... Help!!! |

$130 for the spay ( I think the neuture is the same maybe a little less) $10 per-tooth pulled (not included) $20 pain medicine $10 (antibiotic?) $60 micro chip ( not included) I just filled out the bill paper work this morning. But really it depend on where you live, and your vet in general. Hope this helps :) |
