one ear up, one ear down...why? Paris is 17 wks old and I have been taping her ears off and on for about a month. I realize that it could be genetics or teething. Her ears are shaved as well. My question is....if her left ear stands for 2 days after removing the tape and then flops back down, do you think that ear will probably not stand or do you think, it is just a matter of continued development and will eventually remain up. The right ear is up and doesn't flop at all. Thanks for your help. |
Hi, We had the same thing with Harlie and I did alot of research. A breeder gave me a tip that really seemed to work after a few weeks. Teething takes alot of calcium out of the puppies system because it's going to building teeth and jaw bone. The cartlidge in the ears gets deprived and the ear leather vs. cartlidge grows disproportionately. She told me to forget taping and give her a teaspoon of cottage cheese in the evening and massage the ears from the base pulling upward. Viola, in three weeks her ears are standing straight up and are stiff as a board out to the tip...I was amazed. Don |
thank you, don. didn't know i could feed cottage cheese to my pup. will give that a try today. |
My Calvin will be 1 year old next week, both ears were up for 6 months now one ear is up and one ear is down. He is just so darn cute so I leave them like that. His brothers ears are both down and sisters are both straight up. |
Piper's ears finally went up at about 5.5 months. Before that one ear was down and one was up. Duke, my GSD, has one ear up and one ear down even after taping twice. |

I wonder why that happens. I just don't get how they can be up one minute and down the next. When i started this thread, her left ear was completely down. As I'm typing this it is completely up. :confused:Seems to me that if it has the ability to stand at all, why can't they continue to do so? Such a mystery, huh? ;) |
[QUOTE=Poochieheaven;3271456]Piper's ears finally went up at about 5.5 months. Before that one ear was down and one was up. this makes me feel better. i don't have a problem with them being floppy. i just rather see BOTH of them flop or BOTH stand, not one or the other. Oh well. :D |

Lulu one ear up Thank you guys so much for putting my mind at rest :), Lulu is 5 months and I was convinced she must have an infection in her suddenly floppy ear  but the vet said the ear canal is clear but she will prob always have one floppy from now on . She doesn't have any adult teeth yet and her "baby" teeth have just began to drop out so i'm hopeful Don is right, Im def gona give the cottage cheese a go:thumbup:. Thanks for the tip :animal-pa. |
I never did one thing with Zeke's ears and they eventually stood up. I have never shaved his ears because I like them with the long hair on them. |
My Tiki had both ears up at 6 months, then one flopped around 1 year when she came in heat and she has had 1 up & 1 down since then. It is adorable and I wouldn't change a thing. I never taped or shaved her ears, and decided to accept whatever she was meant to have. |
Jamie has one ear up and one ear down and I love it. It so fits her personality and sets her apart. |
Memphis is 5 1/2 mos and now has 1 ear up and one still flopped over. The one that's standing just started to stand last week. Hopefully the other one will follow soon but he looks cute either way.;) |
Remy had both ears down for a long time. I guess till he was 4 months old. I tried taping them but he never kept it on. They just decided to stand one day and they have been up ever since. Some ears stand and some will never stand. But either way I am sure she is ADORABLE. I like the one ear down and one ear up on yorkie's.. I think it's unique and cute:p |
