2 teeth where one should be I checked Zoe's mouth and she has 2 teeth trying to occupy the same spot in her mouth. Anyone else have/had this problem? And is this normal for Yorkie's to have dental problems? |
Yorkies are know for retained puppy teeth and this is very common. If they do not fall out on their own by the time she is spayed the vet should remove them at that time. |
Yes it is normal...sometimes the baby teeth don't fall out on there own and you will need to get your vet to remove them so they don't damage the permeant teeth...I had to have both Bella's top canine remove. |
Zoe is soooo cute! I just want to kiss her little face! How old is Zoe?... Depending on her age she could be retaining her puppy teeth and now her adult teeth are starting to grow in alongside the puppy teeth... sometimes the puppy teeth will fall out but yorkies are known for retaining their puppy teeth. When I had Taycie spayed I had her pull her remaining puppy teeth. I decided to do it then so she wouldn't have to go under anethesia twice. I knew she had puppy teeth that needed pulled, both upper and lower canine teeth had a double set of teeth... Well when she was done she ended up having 8 teeth pulled! You do want to have this taken care of because this will eventually throw off her bite as more teeth come in and it later will result in more dental problems down the road...If she is not fixed yet I would definently talk to your vet about this and have them done when she is spayed! Hope this helps! And give that baby more kisses she is a total doll! |
Thanks LuvTaycieGirl! I'll give her your kisses as soon as she wakes up from her nap. She's a fiesty one but she does like kisses! :-) Zoe is 6 months old and I've never seen any puppy teeth anywhere. Do they swallow them? I am wanting to get her spayed soon... hubby not so much. He said she should have a litter just to re-imburse him for all the money he has to dish out every time I even go near a pet store. LOL....just kidding y'all. He's one for always cracking jokes but he absolutely has fallen in love ..with...""my""..puppy!! And yes..we are planning to get her spayed soon so guess vet will have to work on her from head to..well, you get the idea. LOL |

No they don't swallow them... I have seen a few of Taycie's and I actually have saved them and put them in her puppy book..lol they are so teeny tiny they are easy to miss...... Keep us posted when you have her spayed! It can be kind of nerve wracking and we love to send extra thoughts and prayers! Best puppy wishes! |
hello! my little nika had to have 12 extra teeth pulled out! the dr gave her till she was 9 months old, and they never fell out on thier own, so she had them removed and got her first teeth cleaning since she had to go under anesthesia anyway. good luck! |
When she goes in for her spay your vet can extract any baby teeth that have not come out on their own. |
I'm going through this now also. My little guy has two rows of top teeth. He is really tiny and we are discussing our options as to the anesthesia. He is scheduled for some tests on Friday - a bile acid test and some blood work - before the vet actually puts him under to remove his teeth. Believe me, their breath gets very stinky with retained teeth. |
I went through the retained baby teeth with Macy. Her breath really started smelling bad and the vet said a couple of the teeth were loose and food was getting caught under them and the food was starting to, well....rot. They pulled 6 baby teeth and now she has two teeth coming in on the bottom of her mouth under her tongue. The vet said they would not grow anymore and they haven't - just two little nubs under her tongue. How can such cute little dogs have such horrible teeth. |
Nala had about 8 teeth pulled at the time of her spay. The vet only had to nudge a couple out and the others were pretty solidly stuck in there apparently. I would def do it at the time of the spay-- our vet suggested waiting until 7 months just so we could see how the tooth issue would play out. Good luck :) |
1 Attachment(s) Roxy is Going through this exact same problem! She gets them removed tomorrow during her spay appointment. We call her Vampire Dog because its her Fangs that are double so it looks so funny. |

Really? WOW that explains a lot. I was going to ask the vet tomorrow why her breath is so stinky I think I already know the answer! |
I will be getting my 2 older girls done in about a month. My vet wants to wait on my little Charm until she get a bit bigger. She will be 5 months on Wednesday and is still staying little she goes up and down from 2.8 and 2.12 lbs. She also just got got her front puppy teeth in a few weeks ago. My vet said she is delay and it got me worried. |
