Question from a new Yorkie owner We recently adopted an 18 month old female Yorkie named Claire. She is the best little dog and has adapted well to our family. My only concern is when we leave her home during the workday, she goes NUTS when we get home. She is not crated but rather gated in our mud room with her bed, water and toys. She shakes, jumps, whines and runs back and forth-it usually takes her about 5 minutes to settle herself. Is this typical Yorkie behavior? Thanks for any help/suggestions!! |

same here Winston does the same. My husband and I tell him to settle down the war's over, we're home!!!! lol |
Same here:p |
Very Normal! Taycie goes BANANAS when I leave her and come home! I love it.. it's nice to be missed... and it makes me want to spoil her more! |
yup - typical Yorkie behaviour. She is so happy to see you. My two go crazy when we have been shopping or to the doctors and they have been left alone in the house for a short while. Even when it is just my husband who has been out of the house as soon as he comes home they go crazy, you think he had been gone for hours instead of a very short time. Guess I'd be worry if they didn't act that way:) |

Tyson does the same. I think it's typical Yorkie behavior. LOL |
Mine acts exactly the same way. |
Same here. It doesn't matter who comes home first or last it is the same thing. RUN RUN RUN RUN and get the ball an lets play. Oh, I almost forgot welcome to YT!! |
I'm so happy you posted this question. Kiki has only been home with me less than a week. She's a 2-yr-old rescue. In the past I've owned mini doxies. She was spayed last Thursday and on Sunday I had to leave for a few hours. Came home, took her out of the crate and............. omg,,,,,, she was a speed demon. I tried to contain her because of the recent spay and she wriggled right out of my hands and ran around like crazy:eek: So happy to hear this is normal ~ well, as normal is, I guess ~ lol:animal-pa |
I thought it was just Crickett! She gets so worked up when I get home, even her "voice" is hoarse. I thought she had been barking all day and worn out her vocal cords! (My neighbors say she is quiet unless the mailman leaves a package.) Then when I get home and take her out of her ex-pen she runds around in circles like she thinks she is Mario Andredi reincarnated! |
Yorkies have just the best personalities! My Sebastian jumps up and down at me all excited and whineing, Ariel wiggled around your legs and close to the floor, Duchess jumps up at your hands trying to grab them with her paws, and Contessa just runs around yapping in excitement. Then when you sit on the sofa they are all there all over you trying to get as much love and kisses in as possible! They bring so much joy to my life! |
Beau is the same way...I can be gone 20 minutes and he's jumping up and down like a ping pong ball when I get home. He's a nut! |
Join the Yorkie Reunion Club! Yes, YEs, YES!!!! Our Bella does exactly the same thing. We have noticed that the longer we leave her the longer it takes her to go through the "Lovebug Crazies" when we return. Cesar Milan (Dog Whisperer) says dogs don't feel emotions, and that this behavior shouldn't be reinforced. NOT! We feed right into it each and every time and we BELIEVE she is overjoyed to see us. We all need a little love in our lives and Yorkies give much more than a little. I'd say 5 minutes is about right if you've left your little one alone for 6-8 hours. Enjoy the LOVE! |
