Aggressive lil man. I have a 10 month old Yorkie....with a possible liver shunt. We never did the bile testing but the vet is almost certain he has a liver shunt. He has not been fixed yet d/t the danger of putting him under. Anyway thats just some quick background on him. He goes for a walk with me every night and he is so so so excited to go. He does great keep up the entire 3 miles. Here's the probelm.. when people/dogs/bikes/ go by he flips out and becomes absolutely insane!!! He barks snarls growls. He looks like a rabid wolferine on the end of a leash. COMPLETELY out of control!!! I am really worried about my little man. He is totally normal and loving when we aren't walking. Another thing he does on our walks is lift his leg at least 20 times to mark/pee. Anyone have any suggestions. I am afraid he is going to bite someone or get ate by a big dog. I made the mistake of trying to pick him up during one of these fits and he actually bit me. Elizabeth KS;) |
First I would suggest to doing bile acid tests to confirm a liver shunt if they have not been done yet. I am not well versed in liver shunts so hopefully a more expert person will chime in. But you do need to know if this guy has a shunt as diet plays an important role as do meds and if not MVD type then surgery. I think part of this guys problem is that he is not neutered, but also that he is protecting you when walking from the big bad bike riders. However, biting is not acceptable. I suggest a trainer to assist you, they are the professionals and if your lil guy has gone down that slippery slope then a professional is needed. Too many guys like that end up in shelters for biting. Have you taken him to obedience, lots of socialization as an early pup? |
ps I am also a nurse and use to work night:D |

I highly recommend you go ahead with the BAT's. They are not that expensive and you could learn a lot. Possibly, a change in diet would be all that is needed (If that) but you won't know what to do until you have some initial information to move forward with. |
We already have him on the special liver shunt diet. He starts his walk a ass and ends the walk an ass. He was never like this when we first started these walks a month ago. He is totally out of his ever loving mind. AND GOD knows i love this lil guy to pieces. I only walk him at night now because the foot traffic on the trail is almost zero. I really worry about him. He sees the vet tomorrow .. |
