What does it mean when my yorkie puts her paw on top of my hand? My yorkie likes to put her paw on top of whatever body part of mine that is closest to her. If we are on the couch and she is sitting next to me and I'm petting her, she'll take her paw and put it on top of my arm. If i'm on the ground and I'm playing a game with her, she'll sit there and put her paw on top of my hand or my leg. I looked it up and got some mixed answers. Some said it was a sign of dominance but others said it was a sign of affection. I'm not sure if its appropriate behavior so I wanted to ask the experts on the yorkietalk forums ;P I myself don't mind it b/c i actually think its a cute expressive behavioral thing that she does as if she is trying to communicate with me but I also suppose I wouldn't want her to be doing it if she is just trying to be dominating. |

I think she is just saying that she wants you to pay attention to her. It sounds adorable!! Maybe she just wants to feel close to you too. |
Peanut always puts his little paw on top of my hand when he gets on my lap and if my hand isn't within his reach he holds his foot up for me to put my hand under it and then he's happy. I've never felt this was a sign of dominance...I see it as a sign of affection because when he does it I say "Peanut do you love Mommy?" and he looks at me and smiles with his little scrunchy face smile! :D |
nudging Bogey nudges me with his nose when I stop doing something he wants me to do. That's usually caressing & scratching his ear. It means don't stop! He'll lift his leg if he wants my attention, it's a good thing! |

Kaji does that too. I always assumed it meant "I'm cute, FEED ME!" like everything else he does. ;) |
I think it means "this is mine" Darcy gets as close to my husband as she can at night, and puts one paw over his leg, like she is holding him down--LOL. Baxter sits on our feet, wonder what that means? I love it because his belly is soft and warm LOL |
Teegy does that to me at bedtime if he lies beside my head. My hands are usually stretched out front of him and it's a paw or his head that he puts on my hand |

i think she just wants attention try to turn it into a positive thing with you in control like a shake or i read some wear you could teach the command tap when they do that so that they dont do i unless you say and it makes sure you are in charge |
Zeke will scratch at our hands or arms when he wants us to pet him or keep petting him. Sometimes, if he is laying down and my hand is close he will lay his chin on my hand and go to sleep. |

She is such a good little girl that I didn't think it was dominating at all. She is not at all dominating so that's why I came here to get some info since the answers I found didn't match my own context. It's so cute because when i pull my arm away, she'll put it back on top and inch closer to me. I definitely got a lot of cute and good answers! |
