Vet tech hurt Pippin (she's ok!!) Pippin went in for her rabies shot this morning. Dr. Jones' tech, Cindy, had to have emergency surgery last night so they had called in some other woman to fill in while Cindy's out. She was going to take Pippin in the back to weigh her on the baby scales, get a fecal, take her temp and trim her nails. When I handed Pippin to her, she held her in one hand out away from her body. Pippin is a normal wiggly squirmy 18 week old puppy and immediately flung herself out of the tech's hand!:eek: She was dropping head first to the hard tile floor when I caught her little body, hanging upside down in my hands. Thank GOD, the tech hadn't moved away from me before this happened or my baby girl would've been hurt bad. I'm still shaking and feeling like I'm going to throw up. It was too close. Any idiot who's ever had or been around a puppy knows you just can't hold them that way. Then, stupid me, I gave her back to the tech and let her go off with Pippin. When she brought Pippin back, she was complaining about how much Pippin wiggled when she was clipping her nails. That's when I noticed Pippin's paws were all bloody and covered in that powder stuff!!! That woman had clipped almost every single nail too short and hurt my baby!! :cry8: I can take a lot, but not this idiot and the way she treated my little girl. I opened the door to the back area and told Dr. Jones that I needed to talk to him, alone, NOW. He was very upset and do apologetic. I told him that woman was a danger and he'd be best to send her home now, then I left. Where did they find this idiot??? Don't vets screen better than that??!?! Sorry for the long rant. Pippin seems just fine now, but I'm still feeling shaken. |
Wow! I'd be BEYOND livid. That is insane. If anyone hurt Jackson like that, I'd be pissed. I am so sorry, give Pippin extra lovin' from Jackson & I. |
I'd be livid too. I'm glad you said something to the vet. Obviously he needs to screen his techs more carefully. |
Im sorry Pippin was hurt by that incompetent vet tech |

Update: Dr. Jones just called me to apologize again and tell me he'd let the woman go. He didn't offer any explanations and I don't need any - he proved my faith in him by his actions. Now, I not only have to worry about having a good vet but I have to worry about their techs too!! |

 There are some amazing techs out there, but some, oh my goodness. I've met some seem to be...not all the way there. And they monitor anesthesia! Not a bad idea to meet the tech who will monitor your pup's anesthesia before any surgery is done! And to cut too far on most of the nails??? I mean, it happens occasionally, but not on most of them! That is why I cut Ellie's myself though. I know how fast vets and techs cut them and I think I can do a better job of making sure her quicks don't get cut. |

Please give that adorable Pippin a hug for me! Tammy |
That's so scary. Thank God you caught her in time. Cali is a squirmer and the only one who can hold her without squirming is my dtr. I always let the vet or tech know she is a squirmer and they hold her extra tight. But to hold Pippin away from her body is just crazy. Sounds like she had very little experience with little dogs. So glad your vet was responsive. |
Let's just be glad that you have the relexes of a Cat, and that the pup is ok. Good help is often very hard to find. Glad you were there. |
poor Pippen. Glad the tech is gone now. |
Holy moly, I would be livid as well!!! I'm so glad you talked to the Vet and told him what you thought. Hopefully he sent her home and saved any else's dogs from experiencing what you did. I would be soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo mad!!! Why do people who have no compassion become a Vet or Vet tech? That's just crazy. I just had Annie at the vet and she was squirming when they were drawing blood for her heartworm test, the Vet actually yelled at her and right in my ear! She didn't growl at all and he yelled at her! Needless to say, I've found a new Vet. |
Poor Pippin! Thank goodness you caught her before she hit the floor! When Maximo was neutered, an irresponsible vet tech brought him out to me holding him with one hand wrapped firmly around his neck. Although she was supporting his bottom, I was furious. Like your bad tech, she was holding him away from her body as if she didn't want to touch him. |

I would be absolutely livid too. At least the vet fired her on the spot!. Good for them, and then placed another call to you to let you know he/she did. My dogs are weighed in my sight. I place on scale, steady them, and am prepared with the wee one. With my vet they've never actually offered to trim nails, I guess maybe a difference between Ontario and US. I do trim my wee ones' nails, but until I felt confident with that wee little paw my breeder did it for me. So very glad Pippin is okay. |
