New here...Questions about tiny harnesses.. Hi everyone, We are new here. We've had our baby yorkiepoo for 8 days now and she has stolen our hearts. LucyBelle is 14 weeks old. My question is about harnesses. She's just under two pounds and the mesh harness we have is a little too big, plus it takes a little bit of time to get it on. We are taking her out to potty in her harness/leash. (Well, everybody except the Daddy of the family who insists that's not necessary bc we have a fenced in yard .) Does anyone have any suggestions for a harness that's quick to put on that also comes in teeny tiny sizes??? I hope this question hasn't been asked too many times on the board. I did search YT but got bogged down in the results and just decided to ask. I also searched for tiny harnesses online but I'd rather go with recommendations from real people with experience. Thanks, y'all!!!!! :) |
Hi, I love the silky harness Cindy (Chattiesmom) makes. My girl is super skinny and I had trouble finding something that would fit her. She custom makes them and they are not expensive at all. Plus they look divine :D You can order them from foxypups.com Hope this helps |
I read another YT member used a ferret harness for a pup, thought it was a good idea. Or, maybe a cat harness? |
cat harness Winston is 4 months and we have been using one of our cat harness' on him and it works well. I also bought him an XS harness but it it still to large for him yet. You might want to give it a try. |
I use these: .C Nylabone PALS COMBO HNS 5/16in PNK They are adjustable with a girth of 10" - 14" ...super easy to use! They are step in harnesses with the leash attached (all in one). |
Here is another link....it is a search on The Find...if you decide you want one, you might want to look on this link for different prices: Lil pals daisy harness - Shop sales, stores & prices at TheFind.com You can sometimes find these in Petsmart and Petco, but they sell out quickly and they also charge a lot more for them. |
1 Attachment(s) My Charm is only a little over 2 pounds now and I tried a bunch of xxs harness and they didn't fit even the kitten one on the smallest setting. I had a custom harness dress one made so she can start learning to walk on the leash she'll be 20 weeks on Wednesday. |
I got Kasha at 2.2 lbs ... she was honestly the tiniest thing I had ever seen! We bought the Puppia XXS Harness & it has grown with her to just over 5lbs. Great buy! |
I use the velcro harnesses. I don't like colars for walking due to concern of neck injuries. I got this really cute red bandana one at Designer dog harness, small dog harness, dog walking harness. - Girls. I had lots of problems with some harnesses knotting her hair and this is one that seems to work OK. I also love using a denim vest with a ring for a lead. They make some precious ones and my YT seems to like that the best. I bought the "honolulu" for my sister's YT for Christmas this year. It is much cuter than it is on the website. My YT has the "boca". I think you have to scroll down to see them and can click to enlarge the image. I found mine at Escape Proof Dog Harness Vests and they have matching leads as well. This vest keeps her hair from matting. |
1 Attachment(s) We bought Mabel a ferret harness and it works really well. She's 2 1/2 pounds and I couldn't find a dog harness that fits. |
I bought mine too from chattiesmom. You pick the color and she custom makes them. They are made of duponti silk so they don't tangle or break the hair. |
Harness vests I've ordered a couple of vests from this YT member, I'm very happy. Just send her your pup's measurements for a custom -fit harness vest. http://conniedressmydog.com/ |
Rio is just a little over 3 lbs and Bullet is just under 3 lbs. They wear Buddy Belts and nothing else. They could wiggle out of ALL the other harnesses I tried. The buddy belt has just one buckle and made of leather that gets super soft with wear. They come in all kinds of cool colors and they make them super tiny too. Rio and Bullet wear a size 2. |
Hi y'all, Thank you all for the replies. We ended up with a ferret harness for now bc it fit her little tiny measurement. She'll grow out of it quickly though! |
When I first brought home "Princess" in April, I bought a "Lil Pals" harness from a local pet store. I then found a ferret harness at another local pet store that fit perfectly! In fact it still fits Princess. It has velcro in addition to the clasps. So, it expands in side. When I got Princess in April she was not quite 2 lbs. and it was very difficult to find a harness to fit her. I really loved the ferret harness best for her and still do. I also found another harness at Petsmart that I have not seen anywhere else that I love. It also expands/adjusts. I have heard about the Puppia harness and would love to find one locally to see how it fits "Princess". I have bought a few harness dresses but these seem to shift too much and I worry Princess may wiggle out of these. I sew and have a few patterns I plan to use to make a few new harness dresses and harnesses for both of my pups. I think my favorite harness is one I had for my pomeranian pup last winter. It was made out of fleece fabric and had adjustable clasps. I may use this to create a smaller pattern to make Princess a harness for this winter. I suggest if you can possibly take your pup with you to local pet stores to try on harnesses, it makes choosing one much easier. |

1 Attachment(s) I use a Puppia harness on Sophie Kate and I like it. Problem was getting it fitted properly, I went through so many harnesses until I finally gave up and took her to a store and they showed me how to fit it for her. Sophie Kate is 8 lbs and wears a small in the Puppia (am going to try to attach a picture of her in the harness). Good luck, I remember trying to get a harness to fit her when she was smaller and oh my goodness it was frustrating. |

Thanks for your help = I will start a new thread - thanks again!!:) |
Copper is just about 3 lbs. I use a harness vest. One website I've used is littledogheaven.com The harnesses velcro at the tummy and in front. Since Copper can wiggle out of the standard harnesses, these harness vests work perfectly. |
