my yorkie hate my daughter's yorkie My daughter recently got a yorkie-poo, one of my dogs, Harley just hates him, it's been about 3 months and we cannot get them to be friends no matter what we do. Harley usually loves most dogs, so I dont get it, he is the easiest going dog but for some reason this puppy comes around he avoids him and if he manages to get too close he growls like I have never heard him growl before. He has never tried to bit him, but I am worried. The puppy has even been very submissive with Harley but it doesnt seem to matter. I feel bad because my daughter want to bring him over here when she visits but its gotten to the point where I dont want him here because Harley has such a bad reason and then Harley marks all over the house when he leaves (something he doesnt normally do). I don't know what to do. I want them to get along and its starting to hurt my daughter's feelings that she cant bring her puppy here. How can I help them to get along? |
I've seen this behavior on the Cesar Millan show and he gets the dogs out for walks together. Seems they bond when they are both doing the same thing that they love. They get in a very happy mood. Just make your daughters visits an outside event, like a long walk, eat outside and include the dogs, then another walk before she leaves, till you see the dogs actually playing with each other. :D It's too difficult to be gruchy when there are fun things going on.:D |
How old is your daughters dog? Are both of them neutered? I think getting them on neutral ground is a good idea, so your dog is not trying to protect what is his. How do you react when your dog growls at the other dog? Do you correct him? |

My Harley is not yet 2 yrs old and he is neutered. Her dog is about 6 months old and is not but will be soon, I do like the idea about the walk, I havent tried that yet and its a good idea. When Harley growls we do correct him, its not allowed. the puppy isnt doing anything to Harley and we want him to know its not accepted. Harley cannot jump off the couch (he never learned how to) and we have kept him on the couch (and honestly Harley prefers it up there when the puppy is here) when he comes over to keep them separated. My other yorkie Samson doesnt really like the puppy but will play with him and certainly doesnt growl at him or snap at him like Harley does. I feel sorry for the little guy because he really wants to play with my boys. |
My Yorkie Jade is almost 4. My daughter who has only been back home for about 3 months just bought a beagle puppy. Jade is not tolerant at all with this puppy. Jade has always been the baby and is spoiled rotten. Tonight she snapped at the puppy and thankfully didn't hurt her. She has always growled at my mom's yorkie when she bugged her too much, but has never snapped at her. I don't know if she is just jealous or what. I don't know what to do. My Jade comes first as this is her house, but I don't want to upset my daughter either! Can you please help me on this! |
