Nervous about leaving Uni for two days We are going to a trade show at the end of this month. i wanted to bring her along, but it looks as if this is going to be an all business no play trip, and she would be left in the room for too long by herself. I was initially thinking we would be able to check up on her every few hours, but probably not gonna be the case. So she will be left with MIL. MIL is going to be watching the shop for us while we are gone. I kind of don't want Uni at the shop and have MIL watching her AND the shop. I think it's better to have her at the house, with BIL in and out all day. The problem is going to be feeding her. I feed her Honest Kitchen right now, and that is not just drop some kibble in a bowl and walk away. I am already asking a favor of them to watch her, I don't want to make the feeding a big deal either. I actually wanted to ask my friend if she could watch Uni, but then the fam would probably think I didn't trust them with Uni, and probably make them mad. What do you guys think? We will be leaving super early in the morning on a wed, then come back probably pretty late on thurs. |
Why dont you take her to day care? Camp ilene is in corona and its the best! |
If i were you.. i would let whoever you trusted and uni was comfortable with watch her. |
Well Uni's comfortable with everyone. It's not that i don't trust them, it's just I think the feeding's kind of a burden to them. :( |
Oh.. i can watch her for you.. But i wouldnt worry about it. Whoever is going to watch her just make sure they know what they are getting into... |
I know this won't make you feel any better, but we left on a day trip. A single day! My MIL came down to feed my dogs and give them potty breaks. I feed mine 4 tiny meals a day. I know, that seems very inconvenient (but very simple), but it works for us. Anyways, my MIL feeds her dog free choice, and when I gave her directions she said "that's not very much." I left a container out with enough food really for 3 days. She was just supposed to give one scoop each at each feeding. When I came home, that dish was empty, and one of my dogs was vomitting up food because she ate too much. I decided then, that I would take my dogs to a day/care boarding facility/vet in the future. It's easier to be angry with someone outside the family. |
Thats very true.. camp ilene is very good. I trust her with pnut.. she listens to imstructions as well. Ive never had a problem with leaving pnut there.. |
I always hate the struggle of leaving Jackson, so I know how you're feeling. My dad and stepmom are dog people, have 2 themselves, and have a fenced in backyard, I fully trust when Jackson is over there that he is being taken care of and is happy. :) However, there was one time they weren't available and I had to leave Jackson with my mom and stepdad-both not into dogs like myself, or other side of family. I told my mom to be sure to give Jackson wet food mixed with dry food or else he wouldn't eat all day (esp. with me not being there). Yea... whoops she forgot. Among a few other things. I just don't trust them at all... BUT Jackson was fine when I got back, and happy, so I think it will be ok. And that was for 4 days. I think we just worry more sometimes than we should but of course you want to be able to trust who is taking care of your baby. I think if it came down to it again, if I was leaving for more than 1 night... and my dad wasn't available, I think I would find a nice doggy daycare rather than leaving them with my mom to be honest. |
My mom free feeds the family dog so while she thinks I'm a little neurotic for feeding raw she is awesome about making sure Kasha eats. Actually she eats better with my mom than at home. If your MIL feels like my mom and future MIL feel about Kasha I'm sure she wont have an issue feeding Uni properly. |
I swear we all feel the same way. Leaving them, is like leaving your child. No matter how much we trust the people we leave them with, we will always worry, as most of us on YT have seen the dark side of things. Once tainted with those realities, your care-free mentality somehow slips into the past. I know you will be worrying, but I am sure your family will be able to feed her the Honest Kitchen. Just explain that this is what she is accustomed to eating, and if she is not fed this, then she could get diarrhea, or vomiting; and of course you would not want that to happen at Their house.:D Kind of under-the-table methodology to get what you want, but it is what is best for Uni. |
I would feel more comfortable with someone watching her in their home not your buisness. Didn't Uni run out the door one time? Not sure if it was Uni. Just to be safe a home would be better. Have fun at the trade show.:) What are you buying? |

I absolutely hate leaving my boys. Last time I went out of town was to visit my parents in Kansas for 3 days, and my bf stayed home. You would think that I would feel comfortable leaving the boys with their own dad, but I was a nervous wreck the whole time. My boys eat raw, so I got 3 plastic ziplock bags and wrote the day of the week "Monday, Tuesday, etc" on the bags and put their daily ration in the bag. I called him at night to make sure that he would put the raw in the fridge to defrost for the next day. I called him every day around their meal times, making sure he fed them. He probably thinks I am a lunatic. :) What exactly is involved with feeding Honest Kitchen? Is is difficult or do you think they could handle it? Uni will probably be upset with you being gone, I think it would be even harder on her if you changed her diet suddenly. |
HK can be rehydrated and kept in the fridge for up to three days. What I did when I was feeding it and left them alone was to rehydrate a few days worth, put a scoop with the amount for an individual feeding on the center of a piece of plastic wrap and than wrap it into a little patty... put all the patties in a big ziploc baggie... than my sitter just had to take a patty out and unwrap at each meal. I hate leaving mine too- but at least this should help with the feeding! |
